After the British band's music spread across the globe like a giant flood of lava in the 1970s – and there's hardly anyone left who doesn't know their big hits like "Another Brick in the Wall" or "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" – our attention now turns to the concert film, originally released in 1971. Its track list sounds pristine in Steven Wilson's 2025 mix. While the film footage may not have seemed convincing to the film's protagonists at the time, musically, and especially due to the artistic development of the band's interplay, Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII is among the best Pink Floyd recordings you can get. This isn't a rehash of old hits, but a contemporary document of an excellent band that has finally made it onto vinyl as a standalone release.
