Innuos Music Server in New Mk3 Version – Comprehensive Update

From now on, the successful music servers ZEN, ZENith, and ZENmini from Innuos are available in a new MkIII version. Improvements have been made especially to the power supplies and software, and storage capacity and connectivity have also been enhanced. Many of these updates can also benefit owners of current models. In addition, a completely new high-end server, the Statement, is now available.

The English-Portuguese company Innuos has focused from the very beginning on combining audiophile sound quality with modern usability in their media servers. And they are consistently continuing down this path with the new Mk3 versions of ZEN, ZENith, and ZENmini. 

Since power supply-induced interferences can have a significant impact on the sound of a digital system, the developers devoted their main attention to this point. The standard ZEN model now features a completely newly developed power supply that provides two entirely independent circuits for different areas of the server. The high-quality ZENith even has a power supply with three independent circuits. By the way, both new power supplies can, upon request, also be retrofitted to older devices from the Mk2 generation.

Innuos ZENmini Mk.3

In the smallest and most affordable Innuos server, the ZENmini, there was no room for such a complex power supply, but a soon-to-be-available additional external power supply will provide a solution here with significant potential for sound improvement. And the best part is, this external power supply will also be compatible with the Mk2 version of the ZENmini, so owners of the current device can also benefit from the upgrade.

The mainboards of the powerful music computers have also been completely redesigned. Previously, Innuos used high-quality standard boards, but starting with the Mk3 variant, hardware specially tailored to the needs of music playback is now used, manufactured exclusively for Innuos by the supplier. In this context, the housings of all models were also revised and further optimized against vibrations. However, these changes are limited to the interior of the housings; externally, the Mk3 versions remain unchanged, apart from the further improved vibration-damping feet.

More storage space with ZEN and ZENmini

So that music lovers with large high-resolution collections can find the right Innuos server in every segment, larger storage versions can now be ordered. The ZENmini and ZEN, which are equipped with hard drives, will then offer up to eight terabytes of storage space, while for the ZENith, the limit is four terabytes due to the enormous cost of larger SSD storage.

As an entry-level server, the ZENmini is designed to offer the greatest flexibility, which is why Innuos has equipped it in the Mk3 version with both an optical and an electrical digital output (S/PDIF) in addition to USB, making it compatible with as many D/A converters, amplifiers, or even soundbars as possible. However, with the ZEN and ZENith, the developers are sticking to their previous approach: with a suitable converter, USB simply sounds best, which is why the two larger servers still do not have additional outputs.

The new benchmark: Innuos Statement

Based on the experience gained with the ZENith SE, which was limited to 100 units, Innuos now presents a true high-end model. The new one is called Statement, and the name speaks for itself. An enormously complex power supply with eight independent circuits has been housed in an external case and ensures ultra-clean power supply, the special mainboard is equipped with selected components, and the output of the signals is handled by a USB board developed by Innuos with a separate 5V power supply and a 3ppb OCXO clock for perfect timing. The first appearances of the Statement, such as at the High End 2018 in Munich (video), already attracted a lot of attention, and now you can experience the qualities of this high-end server for yourself.
