GROUND NOISE DISSIPATION TECHNOLOGY
Ground conductors on power cords offer protection against the flaws of mains wiring, but they also act as antennas. Therefore, they are susceptible to high-frequency (RF) noise. This RF noise bypasses component power supplies and is typically passed directly to the most sensitive AV circuitry in a system. AudioQuest's patented Ground Noise Dissipation significantly reduces distortion and delivers an unprecedented level of noise dissipation across the widest possible RF bandwidth. Its unique circuit topology employs a common-mode phase cancellation arrangement in conjunction with proprietary dielectric materials that provide additional linear differential filtering. (US Patent No. 9,373,439)
UNCOMPRESSED HIGH-CURRENT TRANSMISSION
While many power cables feature low DC resistance to meet the demands of high currents, a cable's characteristic impedance is also crucial for optimal performance. Unlike most power cables, which limit or compress audio transients, AudioQuest power cables combine low DC resistance with zero (no) characteristic impedance to deliver uncompressed transients when needed.
LADDERS MADE OF HIGH-PURITY TRUE-CONCENTRIC PSC+
The Blizzard uses the purest copper: 100% Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+). Both the high-quality metal and the conductor geometry reduce transient intermodulation distortion (TIM), which often leads to listening fatigue.
72V Dielectric Bias System with Carbon-Containing High-Frequency Noise Trap (DBS)
All insulation is also a dielectric, and its properties can affect signal integrity. If the insulation is not biased, dielectric interference (absorption and nonlinear energy release back into the signal flow) causes different time delays (phase shifts) at different frequencies and energy levels, which is a significant problem for highly time-sensitive, multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's multiply patented DBS generates a strong, stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the insulation molecules. This minimizes nonlinear time delays, resulting in a more transparent sound against a "blacker" background. The integration of an RF trap (a technology originally developed for AudioQuest's Niagara series power products) into the DBS battery pack further reduces high-frequency noise. DBS battery packs last for years. A test button and LED allow for occasional battery checks.
DIRECTIONALITY
All drawn metal strands and conductors exhibit an asymmetrical and therefore directional grain structure. The resulting varying RF impedances are controlled by AudioQuest to divert noise away from where it would cause distortion. The correct direction is determined by subjecting each batch of metal conductors in every AudioQuest audio cable to a listening test. Where directionality is important, the connectors are clearly marked with corresponding arrows to ensure superior sound quality. In most AQ cable models, the arrows not only indicate the direction in which the metal direction is optimally utilized for noise dissipation, but also point to the asymmetrical arrangement of the shielding and ground to optimize the overall system performance.
