MC611

McIntosh mono power amplifier

The Macintosh monoblock MC611 amplifier produces a whopping 600 watts of power. A pair of MC611s can drive an impressive home stereo system or run a large home theater. Thanks to the unique Autoformer™ technology, your speakers get the full 600 watts, regardless of whether they have an impedance of 2, 4 or 8 ohms. This allows you to use the full potential of the MC611.

The MC611 has received numerous updates and improvements compared to the previous 600 watt monobloc model. Among the most important is the doubling of filter capacity, which means a significant 55% increase in dynamic headroom from 1.8dB to 2.8dB. This twofold increase in filter capacity contributes to the improved performance of low bass frequencies.

The front panel features a new direct LED backlight for improved visuals and color accuracy. Additionally, the audio autoformer and power transformer remain seated just behind the front panel, but are now contained in new glass-topped packages. Behind them are 2 Monogrammed Heatsinks™ connected to sophisticated high-current output transistors that eliminate thermal equilibrium time lag. Added an amplifier block diagram shield to the panel between the heatsinks.

The rear panel still has 3 sets of Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts (1 set for each speaker impedance), but more space has been created between each set for easier speaker cable management.

The eco-friendly power management system, which turns off the amplifier after a certain time if no input signal is detected, has also been added. Product improvements also include stronger internal wiring and upgraded circuit components.

In addition, the MC611 is loaded with other exclusive McIntosh technologies:

  • Power Guard® that monitors and adjusts the input signal at the speed of light, making real-time adjustments to avoid harsher sounds and potentially speaker-damaging clipping.
  • Sentry Monitor™ - this is the short circuit protection circuit that disables the output stage before the current exceeds safe operating levels and then automatically resets when operating conditions return to normal.
  • Quad-balanced design that eliminates virtually all noise and distortion that has crept into the audio signal.
  • Power Control to turn signals on and off to other connected McIntosh Components to easily turn the system on and off.

Both a balanced and unbalanced output are included to make it easy to bi-amp or tri-amp your speakers. They can also be used to send the audio signal to a secondary system if your preamp doesn't have enough outputs, or to connect a powered subwoofer.

The McIntosh MC611 features a beautifully polished stainless steel chassis giving it the timeless McIntosh aesthetic of a black glass front, backlit logo, control knobs, aluminum handles and of course a large 8' (20.3cm) fast responding blue wattmeter.
