5-channel power amplifier with 225 watts per channel
The Anthem MCA 525 Gen 2 is a 5-channel power amplifier with an output power of 225 watts per channel. Manufactured in Canada, this second generation of the MCA series is based on a revised circuit architecture, a high-performance power supply, and an overall design consistently focused on stability and signal purity.
Revised Gen 2 architecture
The MCA Gen 2 series was developed with the goal of simplifying the signal path and reducing internal losses. Significantly reduced internal wiring ensures shorter, more direct signal paths.
Combined with optimized input stages and a revised circuit topology, this results in a high degree of transparency across the entire frequency spectrum. Even with dynamically demanding material, playback remains stable and controlled.
High-current capable power supply
The power supply is based on large toroidal transformers with low stray field emission. These ensure a stable and interference-free power supply to the output stages.
Unlike traditional multi-channel architectures, this system uses two central power supplies that power all channels. This design allows for high power reserves and even current distribution, even when all channels are under simultaneous load.
Power-stable output stage
Each channel is equipped with eight bipolar power transistors, ensuring even load distribution. This reduces the thermal stress on individual components and increases long-term operational reliability.
The power amplifier is designed for stable power output even at low impedances and supports dynamic load changes without audible compression.
Low distortion and high signal-to-noise ratio
The Gen-2 architecture achieves a high signal-to-noise ratio of up to 120 dB as well as reduced overall distortion.
This enables very quiet playback with low background noise and high detail resolution, especially in quiet passages and complex sound structures.
Advanced Load Monitoring (ALM™)
The integrated ALM™ system continuously monitors temperature, current, and voltage within the amplifier.
In the event of critical operating conditions, the system intervenes selectively without using conventional safeguards in the signal path. Unaffected channels remain active, and normal operation is automatically restored once stabilization has occurred.
An LED display on the front panel provides information about the operating status of the protection system.
Energy efficiency and operational control
The amplifier is designed for low energy consumption in standby mode and requires only 1–2 watts there.
Control is flexible, via manual activation, 12V trigger, or signal-dependent activation. This facilitates integration into automated AV systems.
Connection section
The speaker terminals are generously sized and gold-plated to ensure stable mechanical contact and low-loss signal transmission.
The design is tailored to the requirements of high-quality speaker cabling and supports consistently high current flows.
System integration and scalability
The MCA 525 Gen 2 is designed for use in multi-channel systems and can be flexibly combined with AV processors such as the Anthem AVM 70 or Anthem AVM 90.
The modular structure of the MCA series allows systems to be scaled according to channel requirements – from compact setups to complex home cinema installations.
Construction and thermal design
The housing is based on a robust metal construction with large-area aluminum heat sinks. These enable efficient passive heat dissipation without active cooling.
The mechanical design is geared towards continuous operation and high thermal stability.
