The digital preamplifier Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital and the streaming bridge Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra mark a new era for the components of the Pro-Ject S2 series. Together they are a perfect team - and in the new chrome guise they are also irresistibly beautiful.

For the first time in the Pre Box S2 Digital, Pro-Ject uses a double mono structure with top-class D/A converter chips from ESS Sabre, whose flagship DAC chip in the Pre Box S2 Digital offers maximum audio enjoyment at an affordable price guaranteed. This D/A converter is capable of converting high-resolution PCM files up to 786kHz/32Bit PCM and DSD up to DSD512.

The Pre Box S2 Digital also marks the premiere of Pro-Ject's proprietary 'Optimum Transient Filter' and clock circuitry. Digital audio is the art of the time, and with the innovative clock design, Pro-Ject realizes jitter values of 100 femtoseconds. That puts many highly regarded and respected clock generators to shame!

With eight digital filters, you can even adjust the sound a bit to suit your personal preferences. The Pre Box S2 Digital is fully remote controllable and can even control your computer's playback software.

The Stream Box S2 Ultra offers modern connectivity with network and USB-A ports. The USB output is optimized for the transmission of audio signals. It uses a special internal power supply and only premium components. File compatibility issues are a thing of the past as the Stream Box S2 Ultra acts as a network bridge, passing the files directly to your DAC.

Since many DACs have a USB input, the Stream Box S2 Ultra is also designed as a USB detox device. The Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra cleans the noisy signal from your computer while making your music sound even better.

The Stream Box S2 Ultra is fully remote controllable via smart devices or a regular web browser. It offers support for the most popular streaming services: Spotify, TIDAL, Quobuz and HiRes streaming. By implementing TuneIn you also have the possibility to listen to different internet radio stations. You can listen to your favorite radio shows, the news and discover new channels from around the world - with just a few clicks.

The rear HDMI video output allows you to connect your monitor to the Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra to see a graphical user interface. The Stream Box S2 Ultra also has two USB ports, one on the front and one on the back. Both offer the option of connecting an external hard drive to the device. The Stream Box S2 Ultra offers file support for PCM up to 352.8kHz/32Bit and DSD256. With the implementation of Shairport, iDevice users can send music directly from their devices to the Stream Box S2 Ultra.

First-class components from first-class manufacturers

The S2 Chrome set stands out from the normal series devices thanks to the particularly carefully selected components and raises the already excellent level of quality even further.

Pro-Ject uses a dual DAC, namely two latest generation Saber ESS9038Q2M. The ES9038 SABER DAC is a high-performance 32-bit converter and uses ESS's patented 'Hyperstream II Modulator' architecture and 'Time Domain Jitter Eliminator'. It offers an unrivaled 129dB dynamic range and -120dB signal-to-noise ratio. Too many numbers? To put it more simply: it doesn't get any better than this.

The ESS9602 headphone amplifier and output buffer delivers 122dB dynamic bandwidth and -117dB signal-to-noise ratio when terminated at 600 ohms. In addition, we have incorporated a unique feature that brings the signal-to-noise ratio down to -112dB at 32 ohms.

Organic polymer capacitors were used at particularly critical points in terms of sound, such as the analog power supply. These capacitors have very low thermal drift, resulting in very consistent performance.

The 16-core XMOS USB chip ensures asynchronous USB data transfer and perfect MQA support.

The full-color OLED display shows the current volume, the selected input, the sampling rate and the type of digital signal.

Synchronization of all oscillators

Imagine an orchestra - without percussionists or conductors. Each musician plays at their own pace and rhythm. This results in unspeakable chaos. The same applies to the clocking oscillators in D/A converters. There are many oscillators with different frequencies - and they all have to be perfectly matched and synchronized. Only then do they work like an orchestra with a conductor. In digital terms, this brings incredibly low jitter values and minimizes interference - both of which are extremely important for good sound.

Incidentally, this special set is also packaged in a special way: instead of the usual boxes, the Pro-Ject DAC & Streaming Set S2 Chrome is delivered in a high-quality wooden box, which contains not only the actual components but also all accessories including an AudioQuest Cinnamon Find the USB cable to connect both components.
