The MR89 AC is the latest in a long line of outstanding McIntosh tuners, including the 1970's MR78, which many still consider to be the greatest tuner of all time.
The MR89 AC features exclusive McIntosh radio frequency circuitry that can pick up both strong FM signals from nearby stations (which can cause distortion with other tuners) and weaker FM signals with little or zero noise.
In the MR89 AC, numerous improvements have been made over its predecessor, the MR87, to make listening to the radio even more enjoyable. Sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, harmonic distortion, channel selectivity and stereo separation have been thoroughly analyzed and revised.
In addition, new features have been added: A High Blend option, as well as Softmute and Highcut features.
60 dB VU meters show the signal level of each channel's analog outputs in the most beautiful McIntosh blue. Depending on the program being received, the level meters are a very good indication of the MR89's excellent stereo separation capabilities.
Two balanced and two unbalanced analogue outputs as well as one each digital coaxial and optical output are available to connect McIntosh's current flagship tuner to existing audio systems.
The MR89 AC supports the FM Radio Data System (RDS) so that various information such as station name, artist name and song title can be shown on the display (if transmitted by the station).
