Melco's new flagship, the Data Switch S10, unlocks the true potential of network-based audio sound quality.
Melco Audio has launched an audio switch that for the first time has a separate, high-performance linear power supply and a revised main circuit board compared to the Melco Switch S100. It enables the ultimate sound quality for audio network systems.
The main features of the Melco S10 are:
- Separate linear toroidal transformer in a separate all-aluminum housing (like the N10 music servers and streamers)
- Advanced motherboard
- All-aluminum housing mounted on a strong steel chassis for improved stability and isolation
- Improved energy management for high sound quality.
The new high-end network switch consists of a control unit and a
external power pack so that the sensitive data-carrying areas of the device are isolated from the power supply. The two-box solution is the same as that of the recently launched digital music library flagship, the N10/2, ensuring ultimate sound quality.
The head unit of the S10 is based on Melco's successful S100 network switch
and benefits from greatly improved energy management. The housing of the control unit has been significantly optimized through the use of the highest quality aluminium, which increases the stability and insulation of the signal-carrying electronics. A rugged, shielded steel housing provides additional mechanical strength.
The connections, on the back, like the S100, include RJ45 Ethernet ports for different speeds: 4x 100 MB and 4x 1 GB. The latter are intended for a Roon Core processor that generates high traffic.
In addition, there are two 1 GB SFP (small form factor) ports for direct fiber optic connections and compatibility of the connected devices.
A large toroidal transformer forms the main part of the S10 power supply and is mounted on a solid base with special insulators from the Japanese company TAOC. Other features include high-quality Neutrik connectors on the output, as well as a high-quality DC interconnect cable from Tokyo-based Oyaide.
