This preamplifier is being sold on behalf of a customer. This preamplifier is a used unit from 2022 and is in good condition. The manufacturer's warranty is transferable and runs until 2027.

The MBL N11 is a high-end analog preamplifier from MBL's Noble Line. Designed as the central link between the source and the power amplifier, it focuses on maximum signal purity, high configuration flexibility, and a low-noise, stable power supply. The MBL N11 is suitable for both purely analog system concepts and modern setups with digital players, provided they feature high-quality D/A converters.

Signal routing and amplification

Amplification in the MBL N11 is achieved via a single active amplifier stage per channel. This single-stage processing minimizes distortion and noise by eliminating the usual cascading of multiple circuit blocks. The gain is +8 dB. The maximum output voltage is 8 V (XLR) or 4 V (RCA). Volume control is analog via a high-precision resistor network with a motorized potentiometer. This control is placed directly in the signal path, eliminating digital control losses.

The circuit is based on MBL's UNITY GAIN principle. This concept ensures that the music signal remains constant in terms of voltage while the currents are adjusted—which benefits sonic integrity, especially at very low signal levels.

Variety of connections

The MBL N11 offers a comprehensive input and output section. It comes standard with two balanced XLR inputs and five unbalanced RCA/Cinch inputs. One of the RCA inputs can optionally be equipped with a phono input module (MM/MC) or a third XLR input.

Two groups are available for the output, which can be activated independently. Group 1 includes one XLR and one RCA output, as does Group 2. There are also two record-out outputs (RCA and XLR) with fixed levels.

The inputs can be individually named, their sensitivity adjusted, and—if desired—deactivated. This reduces potential interference on unused signal paths.

Control and user interface

Operation is either via the central 5-inch TFT color display on the front panel or via the included remote control with rotary encoder function. The menu navigation is clearly structured and allows for comprehensive configuration of the device. Among other things, you can define the initial volume, level adjustment for the inputs, name assignments, and output combinations.

The MBL N11 features two RJ45 ports for MBL's proprietary SmartLink connection. This allows multiple MBL components to be networked across systems. Functions such as shared power on/off, status synchronization, and firmware updates via SD card are enabled via this connection.

Mechanics and structure

The MBL N11's housing is made of a sturdy metal construction with high internal damping. All signal paths are strictly channel-separated. Power is supplied via a toroidal transformer with separate windings for the analog circuits and the control electronics. A sophisticated mains filter module ensures a stable, noise-free power supply. The circuit is completely channel-separated and symmetrical.
