Flat on-wall subwoofer for flexible living space integration
With the Planar PL-1, REL introduces a new product category in the subwoofer sector. Instead of a classic, bulky cube enclosure, this model features a flat, wall-mounted design. This allows the PL-1 to be discreetly integrated into modern living spaces without sacrificing REL's signature deep bass performance. The concept was developed to enable powerful bass reproduction even where conventional subwoofers are not feasible due to space or design constraints.
Space-saving construction and design options
The REL Planar PL-1 breaks with the traditional design of compact subwoofers. With a cabinet depth of only about 14.4 cm, it takes up minimal space and can be mounted directly on the wall or placed as an unobtrusive design element.
For a visually harmonious look with your interior design, the high-quality lacquered finishes Piano Black (high-gloss black) and Gloss White (high-gloss white) are available. Additionally, you can customize the subwoofer to your living space with optional fabric or wooden front covers.
Controlled bass reproduction through targeted room coupling
Despite its shallow cabinet depth, the Planar PL-1 provides a solid and precise foundation for music and home theater. Inside, a system of two 6.5-inch FibreAlloy long-throw drivers, supported by a 10-inch passive radiator, delivers controlled and deep bass that extends down to 31 Hz (-6 dB), depending on room acoustics.
Mounting the speakers close to the wall is part of the acoustic concept: it utilizes the adjacent surfaces to distribute low frequencies evenly throughout the room. The result is precise, musical bass that integrates seamlessly into existing speaker systems.
Flexible setup and wireless signal transmission
A key advantage of the PL-1 is its versatility in placement. Besides standard wall mounting, the subwoofer can also be set up freestanding or moved flexibly around the room on the optional, mobile "Planar Cart".
To enable a clean installation without visible cables, the device supports the REL AirShip Direct™ wireless transmission system. This allows for lossless and straightforward signal transmission to the subwoofer. Thanks to its connections for high-level (Neutrik Speakon), low-level (RCA), and LFE, the PL-1 is equally suitable for demanding stereo systems and multi-channel home theaters.
