Gryphon has taken a bold step forward with the introduction of the Black Diamond DLC pickup, developing its own pickup for the first time.

Working with Ortofon, the world's leading and innovative manufacturer of cartridges, was an obvious choice. As Gryphon Audio Designs celebrates its 40th anniversary soon, entering the field of turntables and cartridges marks a significant milestone in the company's history.

Gryphon has long been known for its phono preamplifiers, starting with the legendary The Head Amp in 1985. With this new venture, Gryphon aims to establish itself as a comprehensive manufacturer of high-end audio components.

Black Diamond DLC based on Ortofon's MC Diamond

With the introduction of the Siren Phono Preamplifier, the Apollo Turntable System and now the Black Diamond DLC cartridge, Gryphon has achieved its goal of becoming a leading manufacturer in the ultra-high-end audio segment.

Although the Black Diamond DLC is based on Ortofon's MC Diamond, it is much more than just a reissue. A team of eight engineers at Ortofon, supported by external partners, have further developed the MC Diamond. The Black Diamond DLC's SLM titanium housing features a DLC-TR coating that improves damping and eliminates unwanted resonances twice as fast. Gryphon worked with the Danish Technical Institute to create the DLC-TR coating.

Improvements to the Black Diamond DLC MC cartridge

• Coil Wire : Upgraded from copper to gold plated copper, improving conductivity and performance.
• Coil Arrangement : A newly developed 6-layer coil configuration with 2 x 84 turns per channel, providing superior signal quality.
• Rubber Mounts : Improved front and rear rubber mounts made from a newly developed rubber compound for increased durability and performance.
• Mechanical Tension : Updated and optimized mechanical tension of the generator system to complement the new bearings, coil arrangement and materials to ensure maximum performance and reliability.
• DLC coating : Increases the sound and resonance transmission speed from 9,000 m/s to 18,000 m/s.

These comprehensive upgrades significantly improve the audio quality and durability of the product, setting a new standard for music playback in ultra-high-end systems.
