Tube phono preamplifier (MM/MC) with discrete circuitry

An external phono preamplifier is indispensable if the existing amplifier does not have a connection for a turntable or the built-in phono preamplifier does not meet the quality requirements of the music lover. The connection is then made to a high-level input of the amplifier. Every pickup plays best in the optimal electrical environment. It is therefore an advantage if a phono preamplifier can be sensitively adjusted to the requirements of the pickup in terms of the terminating capacity, the terminating resistance and its gain.

The Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 is a high-quality tube phono preamp with discrete circuitry in the signal path. Components selected according to sound aspects, such as polystyrene capacitors, ensure the finest sound. The device has a wide range of setting options for the termination capacity of MM, moving iron and high-output MC pickups as well as the terminating resistor for low-output MC pickups. The amplification can be set in six steps. The gain setting is not linked to an operating mode. All settings can be used for the operating modes MM and MC. The gain setting is stored in non-volatile memory, so it is not lost even if the device is disconnected from the mains.

The two ECC83 tubes (internationally referred to as 12AX7) protruding from the top of the housing for better heat dissipation (and a nicer look) are high-quality double triodes according to a standard that has been produced hundreds of thousands of times. The supply of these tubes is absolutely secured.
