This set combines the high-quality Pro-Ject RPM 10 Carbon turntable with the Sumiko Songbird low-output MC cartridge, offering a particularly powerful solution for discerning vinyl enthusiasts – at an attractive package price. The turntable incorporates the sound-defining design features of the smaller model, but consistently utilizes increased mass and an even more sophisticated mechanical construction.
The platter and chassis are significantly more robust, resulting in exceptionally stable and resonance-free playback. Additionally, both the chassis and the base of the unit are coated with carbon fiber, providing extra rigidity and effectively reducing unwanted resonances.
Elaborate mechanical damping
Numerous measures have been implemented in the RPM 10 Carbon to minimize mechanical influences. The chassis and the device base are filled with metal granules, which effectively absorb vibrations.
The bearing shaft of the turntable bearing is mounted on a solid metal block. This design provides additional stability and reduces mechanical influences on the tracking.
The nearly six-kilogram turntable platter is dampened by a ring made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). This material reduces resonances and contributes to a particularly smooth rotation.
Magnetically supported platter bearing
The inverted, magnetically supported platter bearing uses ceramic raceways and enables rumble values close to the measurement limit. Two repelling neodymium magnets significantly reduce the load of the platter on the bearing, resulting in a marked improvement in the bearing's smooth operation.
For users who like to experiment, the magnetic force can be continuously adjusted – even to the point of an almost floating turntable. A record puck also ensures improved contact between the record and the platter.
Magnetic decoupling of the entire player
The turntable's base is also elaborately constructed. Magnetic fields in the feet ensure effective mechanical decoupling of the surface and the drive. Two magnets of the same polarity allow the turntable to virtually float, while precise guide pins serve only to center it.
The player himself also stands on three mechanically dampened feet made of TPE, which further reduces external interference.
Precision tonearm made of carbon fiber
The medium-mass tonearm is ideally suited for both MM and MC cartridges. The conical tonearm tube and headshell are made from a single piece of carbon fiber. This design combines high rigidity with low resonance susceptibility.
High-quality ABEC-7 ball bearings ensure virtually frictionless movement of the tonearm. This allows the stylus to follow the record groove with exceptional precision.
With its 10-inch length, the tonearm significantly reduces tracking angle error compared to classic 9-inch designs. This further minimizes tracking distortion.
Flexible settings
The tonearm offers extensive adjustment options for precise adaptation to different cartridges. The tonearm tube can be rotated after loosening a screw, allowing for precise azimuth adjustment.
Additionally, the vertical tracking angle (VTA) can be adjusted at the tonearm base. Various counterweights allow for adaptation to a wide range of different cartridge weights.
