Sperling Audio's universal drives are DC motors with excellent controls that add value to almost any turntable. The height of the drive belt can be varied. The length of the strap can be selected, or made individually after consultation.
Drive and motor box are separate
Ideally, the drive is on the front left, in the direction of travel of the tonearm (during playback, i.e. with the needle on the record). Of course, you can simply place the engine where you want or where there is space, for example behind the drive. The approx. 1 meter long connection cable to the motor control comes out of the motor socket. So it can be placed in a practical place. You don't have to touch the engine.
drive height
The Sperling drives can be easily adjusted using three adjustable feet. An additional foot, optically matching the engine, provides even more scope. The smallest drive height (middle of the belt) is approx. 95 mm. The highest drive height (middle of the belt) is 100mm. With the three optionally available feet in different thicknesses (10mm, 15mm and 30mm) you can reach a maximum height of 130mm. If you want to go even higher, you need the M6 motor, which can be increased to 180 mm.
plate diameter
The Sperling Universal drives are designed for turntable diameters of around 290 to 340mm. Most turntables on the market are in this range. For very large or very small turntables, please use the NRM-1/S controller. This has pre-regulators for each speed, with which the control can be adapted to the turntable diameter once during commissioning.
strap length
The drive belts at Sperling Audio are actually drive tapes. They are made by hand. If the available lengths do not fit perfectly, it is in principle possible to manufacture each length individually - without any extra charge. This means that you can also determine the distance between the motor and the drive yourself.
The difference in sound
Above all, a Sperling drive brings calm to the stage. The playback becomes more detailed and three-dimensional. This makes long-term listening much more exciting and appealing. If you want to delve further into the depths of your vinyl collection, the Sperling Motor is a good choice.
