PHOEBE BRIDGERS - STRANGER IN THE ALPS

Alternative · Singer/songwriter · Autobiographical

STRANGER IN THE ALPS from 2017 does sound a bit melancholic, but fans of alternative singer/songwriter art will get their money's worth: Phoebe Bridgers writes personal lyrics, not too concrete that you stop listening in boredom, and not too abstract that the your own imagination can no longer keep up. And aren't debut albums always very autobiographical? The songs make you want to hear more from her, especially since the whole record is also excellently produced in terms of sound.

The title of the album comes from the “cleaned up” TV version of the film The Big Lebowski: When Walter angrily hits a Ferrari with a crowbar, he shouts in this version: “Do you see what happens, when you find a STRANGER IN THE ALPS?” It doesn’t make any sense at all, but Phoebe Bridgers found this censored sentence very poetic. If you’re wondering what Walter says in the original, you should either watch the film (original language) or think about which words have replaced find and alps could.
