Give your home theater the power it deserves with the MC255 5-channel home theater power amplifier. The MC255 features a striking new TripleView power meter that independently displays the real-time power measured by each of the amplifier's three front channels. Instead of three separate display windows, each housing an individual meter, as was the case with our previous 5-channel home theater amplifier, the easy-to-read, 15-inch-wide TripleView incorporates three of our traditional mechanical meters into a single, integrated meter housing.
Each of the TripleView meter's three peak-responding pointers is a completely new design and features the same enticing movement for which McIntosh meters are renowned. They perform to the same high standards as all our meters. The TripleView meter's charming appearance and inviting illumination are sure to attract the attention of friends and family. However, the trademarked blue illumination can be switched off so as not to compete with your television or movie screen.
In addition to the new TripleView meter, the MC255 has received many other performance enhancements to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience in your home theater. Filter capacity has been increased by 50%, more than doubling the dynamic headroom from 1.7 dB to 3.6 dB—a key feature in a home theater amplifier—and improving low-frequency performance. When using only the front left, center, and right channels, the output power has been increased by 25% from 200 watts per channel (WPC) to 250 WPC. When all five channels are used, each receives 200 WPC. Regardless of the number of channels used, the full 200 or 250 watts are delivered to 4-ohm or 8-ohm speakers via our Dynamic Power Manager® (DPM) technology.
The MC255 runs cool and quiet thanks to four of our McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks™, which are connected to advanced high-current output transistors that efficiently and silently cool the amplifier; therefore, no noisy fans are needed that could interfere with the movie soundtrack. A quiet, specially wound toroidal isolation transformer also helps to keep noise to a minimum. The speaker terminals have been upgraded to our standard gold-plated binding posts, which prevent corrosion and ensure a quality signal is sent to your home theater speakers. Traditional McIntosh knobs now adorn the front panel to control the gauges and power functions. The front panel has been updated with direct LED backlighting for improved color accuracy and durability. Our power management system, which shuts down the amplifier after a set period of time if no input signal is detected, is also now included.
Although the MC255 has received many upgrades, it is also equipped with McIntosh technologies such as Power Guard®, which prevents potential speaker damage from amplifier overdrive and distortion, and Sentry Monitor™, which protects against short circuits by shutting down the output stage should the current ever exceed safe operating levels (it then automatically resets when operating conditions return to normal). Balanced and unbalanced inputs are included for connecting your home theater processor to the MC255 home theater amplifier.
The MC255 can power a conventional 5-channel home theater system. It can be paired with our MI128 or MI254 digital amplifiers in home theaters that support additional surround sound speakers with object-based 3D audio formats such as Dolby® Atmos, DTS:X™, and Auro-3D®; or it can be used in a two-zone configuration with the three front channels used in one zone at 250 WPC and the two surround sound channels used in a second audio zone at 200 WPC.
