McIntosh MC255AC
Surround power amplifier
Give your home theater the performance it deserves with the MC255 5-channel home theater power amplifier. The MC255 features a striking new TripleView power meter that independently displays real-time measured power from the three front channels of the amplifier. Instead of three separate display windows, each housing a single meter, as was the case with our previous 5-channel home theater amplifier, the easy-to-read, 15" wide TripleView offers three of our traditional mechanical meters in a single-panel housing individual gauge.
Each of the TripleView gauge's three peak-responsive hands is an all-new design and has the same alluring motion that McIntosh gauges are known for. They work at the same high level as all of our gauges. The enchanting look and inviting glow of the TripleView meter is sure to draw the interest of friends and family. However, the trademarked blue illumination can be turned off to avoid competing with your TV or movie screen.
In addition to the new TripleView meter, the MC255 has received many other performance improvements to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience in your home theater. Filter capacity has been increased by 50%, more than doubling dynamic headroom from 1.7dB to 3.6dB - a key feature in a home theater amplifier - and improving low frequency performance. When only the front left, center and right channels are used, the power output has been increased by 25% from 200 watts per channel (WPC) to 250 WPC. Using all 5 channels each gets a 200 WPC. Regardless of how many channels are used, the full 200 or 250 watts are delivered to 4 or 8 ohm speakers via our Dynamic Power Manager ® (DPM) technology.
The MC255 runs cool and quiet thanks to four of our McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks™ which are connected to advanced high-current output transistors that cool the amp efficiently and silently; Therefore, no noisy fans are needed, which can disrupt the film's soundtrack. A quiet, specially wound toroidal isolation transformer also helps keep noise to a minimum. The speaker terminals have been changed to our standard gold plated binding posts, preventing corrosion and ensuring a quality signal is sent to your home theater speakers. Traditional McIntosh knobs now adorn the front panel to control the gauges and power function. A direct LED backlight has been added to the front panel to improve color accuracy and durability. Our eco-friendly power management system, which turns off the amplifier after a set period of time if no input signal is detected, is now also included.
Although the MC255 has received many upgrades, it is also fitted with McIntosh technologies such as Power Guard ® which prevents potential damage to the speakers from amplifier clipping and clipping and Sentry Monitor ™ which protects against short circuits by shutting off the output stage should current ever exceeds safe operating levels (it will then automatically reset when operating conditions return to normal). Balanced and unbalanced inputs are included to connect your home theater processor to the MC255 home theater amplifier.
A conventional 5-channel home theater can be operated with the MC255. it can be paired with either our MI128 or MI254 digital amplifiers in home theaters that add surround sound speakers for use with object-based 3D audio formats such as Dolby® Atmos, DTS:X™ and Auro-3D®; or it can be used in a two zone configuration with the three front channels used at 250 WPC in one zone and the two surround sound channels used at 200 WPC in a second audio zone in your home. be used.
