The 218 power amplifier is based on the Burmester amplifier flagship 159 in terms of looks and sound. The Reference Line power amplifier consistently benefits from the experience and knowledge that Burmester derives from four decades of successful amplifier development. Power and elegance are perfectly combined behind the characteristic cooling fins. The monumental, but at the same time stylish power amp has even the most demanding loudspeakers under control and thus proves its class at all times. The almost inexhaustible power reserves lead to an impressive sovereignty in the music reproduction, which is flanked by an excellent spatial resolution and musical warmth.

In order to meet the tonal demands of a Burmester power amplifier, proven circuit designs and new components have been coordinated over months of detailed work. Completely new protective circuits now ensure a high level of operational reliability without affecting the signal paths. The signal routing was further optimized and measured in endless test series.

The heating concept is optimally adapted to the internal structure and the housing design and thus ensures homogeneous heating, even with high performance requirements. This not only has a positive effect on the service life of the components, but also ensures absolute sovereignty in music playback thanks to their stable temperature level. The overdimensioning of the power supply elements makes the energy available stably and reliably at all times, even with demanding loudspeakers. In addition to all the sound advantages mentioned, there is now also the option of integrating the power amplifier into a home control system in order to further increase ease of use.

The power supply has been redesigned from the ground up. Particular value was placed on a ground concept designed for low interference, which also sets sound standards with the new signal and cable routing.

The power amps are largely based on proven technology from the well-known predecessor models and have been carefully optimized without losing sight of the sonic advantages that Burmester power amplifiers have stood for for decades. Modern microcontroller technology ensures stable status monitoring of the amplifier at all times and allows connection to

Home control systems with the BurLink interface. The support capacitors on the output stage have also been optimized and thus deliver improved and therefore even more dynamic impulse reproduction. We continue to rely on well-known values from the Burmester DNA, such as DC coupling without coupling capacitors in the signal path to achieve maximum precision in bass reproduction, as well as symmetrical signal routing for the best possible sound experience.

DESIGN

The design of the 218 power amplifier is closely based on the look of the largest and most powerful mono power amp in the company's history. The 159 inherits its clear lines and the self-contained and harmonious impression of the more compact model. In particular, the screwless processing of the lid and the absence of additional decorative elements underline this visual effect. Despite the technical expansion of the installation space, this reduction to the essentials has made it possible to only have to adjust the overall height by a few millimeters compared to existing and older predecessor models. The expansion inside is clearly recognizable by the extension of the classic Burmester cooling fins, which has been largely compensated for by the puristic design of the cover and base plate, so that existing racks can continue to be used if required. As a homage to the classics from the Burmester amplifier portfolio, the well-known decorative lines can be found on the housing cover of the 218 power amplifier, which follow the course of the heat sink. The back wall is milled from the solid and closes it at a 45 degree angle to the heat sink. The solid base plate closes off the housing at the bottom.

HANDMADE

Only the best components that meet the tightly defined Burmester tolerances are selected in the development and manufacturing process. In addition, there are several days of trial runs and other intensive quality controls up to and including a detailed final listening test under real conditions. Before installation, each individual assembly is subjected to a 100% test according to Burmester quality standards. This complex manufacturing process ensures that the customer ultimately receives a product that is exceptional in every respect.
