Hegel named their CD player Viking because, like their Norse ancestors, they improved on an existing technology. When the Viking Age began, boats had been around for thousands of years. But the Vikings perfected the design of their ships. Their longboats could not only navigate coastal waters, but also cross the open ocean. These improvements allowed the Vikings to discover new shores and even new continents. Although CD technology is not new, Hegel believes that when perfected, it will still be the best digital medium available.

Perfection in simplicity

At first glance the Viking seems simple, but in its simplicity lies excellence. Because the Viking is exclusively dedicated to playing Redbook CDs, it achieves an unprecedented level of sound quality. By focusing on just one task, no compromises are made. The Viking is made of high-quality components designed specifically for the task, and this makes this CD player sound impressive.

High-quality components

The Viking uses a special laser and a high-quality CD drive to ensure optimal data reading. In addition, it is equipped with a state-of-the-art DAC that offers first-class digital-to-analogue conversion with minimal distortion, allowing all the nuances and subtleties of the music to be heard. The Viking does not upsample or manipulate the signal. By leaving the signal as it is on the disc, the excellent DAC can develop its full power.

Precise timing

The drive and DAC are controlled directly by Hegel's unique Master Clock system, which ensures perfect timing between the two. By using a quartz crystal with very low phase noise and Hegel's patented SoundEngine technology, the discrete clock in the Viking reduces jitter to an absolute minimum. The Viking CD player also features an OLED display, which was chosen for its low noise, thus contributing to a clearer and more detailed sound. The analogue stage in the Viking was developed specifically for this model and includes both the analogue low-pass filters and the Line Driver technology, which ensures fully balanced and noise-free signal processing all the way to your amplifier.

Robust and elegant design

A standout feature of the Viking CD player is its cabinet design. The Viking's slim design matches the P30A and H30A models perfectly, creating a modern and harmonious look. But the design choices are not just aesthetic. A highly reliable slot-in drive and solid, well-thought-out construction guarantee that this player will last for many years. The Viking CD player offers a pair of balanced XLR outputs, a pair of unbalanced RCA outputs and a BNC digital output (75 Ohm), making it easy to use and integrate into any audio system. The player also has an automatic standby function and comes with Hegel's solid RC8 aluminum remote control, which can also control all other Hegel products.

Highest sound fidelity

The Hegel Viking is a top-of-the-range CD player designed to reproduce sound as faithfully as possible to the original. With its mechanical design, advanced digital technology, Hegel's unique master clock system and superb analogue stage, the Viking is a must-have for any audiophile who wants to experience music in its purest form. The Viking is a top-of-the-range device designed to faithfully reproduce every aspect of the music you listen to.
