DESCRIPTION

The combination of a 230 mm woofer chassis, a bass reflex system precisely tuned to the driver and the 220 watt digital power amplifier integrated into the subwoofer guarantees deep and powerful bass reproduction. The woofer's membrane is made of pure aluminum, which means that the cone is not only extremely torsion-resistant and lightweight, but also gives the subwoofer an extremely elegant hi-tech look. The generously dimensioned rubber surround, the heavy magnet system and the massive four-layer voice coil also enable the membrane to move over particularly long distances - an important prerequisite for vehement air movements, which are further supported by the downward-facing bass reflex port. After all, the comparatively tiny woofer offers a lower limit frequency of 37 hertz and a sound pressure of up to 111 dB.

The built-in digital power amplifier also makes a significant contribution to the high quality of the SUB E-9F. It mobilizes 170 watts of continuous power and 220 watts of pulse power and can be optimally adjusted to the prevailing acoustic conditions using the integrated controls for volume and upper crossover frequency (control range 40 to 120 Hertz) as well as a phase reversal switch. The DALI sub can be controlled either via the LFE output of a home cinema receiver or with a stereo signal.

The DALI SUB E-9 F is available in two different housing designs: high-quality foil surfaces in black ash and white are available. The front panels are painted high-gloss black or white and contain hidden magnets that can be used to attach the front covers, which are available as optional accessories. Rounded rubber feet give the subwoofer a secure footing and acoustically decouple it from the surface.

DIGITAL AMPLIFIER

The Class D amplifier integrated in the SUB E-9 F mobilizes an RMS sine power of 170 watts and was specially designed for this subwoofer with a view to particularly linear and low-distortion playback. It reaches a peak power of 220 watts - an important prerequisite for the most faithful implementation of bass impulses contained in film soundtracks and recorded music.

The power required for this is provided by a large switching power supply. This is also responsible for the subwoofer having an extremely low power consumption of just 0.4 watts in standby mode. While a large part of the power generated by conventional analog amplifiers is lost in the form of heat, the digital amplifier of the SUB E-9 F has an impressive efficiency of 70%. Despite their high performance, the power amplifier and switching power supply therefore only generate an absolute minimum of heat loss, which is why the subwoofer does not require any external heat sinks.

To ensure that the SUB E-9 F sounds optimal under all circumstances, we have integrated a limiter into the amplifier section. This works in two ways: It compares the amplitude of the input signal with the potential output signal and the available supply voltage of the power supply with the expected output signal. If one of these comparisons shows a problem, the limiter gently reduces the signal level without any noticeable loss in impulse reproduction.

Since the DALI SUB E-9 F is equipped with controls for the volume level and the frequency response (40 - 120 Hz) as well as a phase reversal switch, it can be perfectly adapted to most front speakers and room acoustics. Both line and LFE cinch connections are available for connection to the preamplifier or receiver.

WOOFER

The 230 mm membrane of the SUB E-9 F is made of aluminum. Since this material is very stiff and yet light, it offers excellent impulse response - something you would not normally expect from a subwoofer in this price range. True to the DALI philosophy of particularly natural reproduction, the transient response is also very good, which enables optimal interaction with the front speakers.

Instead of integrating a separate dust cap in the center of the membrane, the membrane is made from one piece, which means that its oscillation movement approaches the ideal of a piston. The result: distortion is reduced to an absolute minimum, especially in the lowest frequency ranges that the subwoofer is supposed to reproduce.

The woofer drive works with a large ferrite magnet that provides a powerful magnetic field within the voice coil area. As a result, the frequency response of the SUB E-9 F extends down to 35 Hertz, and even in the lowest registers, extremely detailed reproduction in conjunction with high sound pressure is guaranteed.

In order to keep signal losses as low as possible, an extremely flexible surround is used that allows for large and linear deflections. The large suspension is designed in such a way that both weak and strong audio streams are converted into acoustic signals without distortion.
