The McIntosh PS1K is an uncompromisingly designed active subwoofer for high-end systems, making deep bass not just audible, but tangible. Developed with the aim of maximum control and minimal distortion, the PS1K adds a foundation of exceptional precision and authority to sophisticated stereo and home theater installations.

At its core are two 13-inch woofers with exceptionally powerful magnet systems. Proprietary LD/HP® (Low Distortion / High Performance) magnet circuit technology reduces distortion while simultaneously increasing efficiency. Finite element analysis (FEA) has been used to optimize the drivers' linearity, ensuring a clean, well-defined, and controlled bass response even at high volumes. The multi-layered carbon fiber cones with integrated voice coil connection provide high rigidity, enormous power handling, and precise impulse response – a significant advantage over conventional insert designs.

Each of the two woofers is driven by its own 500-watt Class D amplifier. The combined output of 1,000 watts allows for effortless dynamic reserves, even in large listening rooms. The sealed enclosure with a 3.8 cm thick baffle minimizes cabinet resonances and ensures maximum structural stability. An integrated power meter displays the total power output in real time.

For perfect integration, the PS1K offers comprehensive customization options. High- and low-pass filters can be set in the range of 40 to 100 Hz, and the phase is continuously adjustable. Two parametric equalizers (30–100 Hz) with variable Q and an adjustment range of ±8 dB allow for precise adjustment to the room and speakers. Balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs provide flexible connection options, including cascading multiple subwoofers.

The PS1K also sets standards in terms of protection mechanisms. Power Guard® monitors the input signal and prevents distortion from overdriving, while Sentry Monitor™ protects the system from short circuits and resets itself automatically.

The PS1K boasts a high-gloss piano black finish, carbon fiber accents, and a solid aluminum base. Spikes and glides allow for optimal placement on various floor surfaces. When paired with loudspeakers such as the McIntosh XRT2.1K or the McIntosh XRT1.1K, it creates an uncompromising, reference-level full-range system.
