Rigid membrane structure
Thanks to the particularly rigid structure of all aluminum or paper fiber cones used in DALI subwoofers, the woofers vibrate evenly like a piston. Furthermore, the dust cap is also eliminated.
High-performance amplifier
The power amplifiers integrated in the DALI subwoofers have a very high output power, so that sufficient reserves are available even for the reproduction of powerful impulses.
Diverse connections
Thanks to their separate LFE and line inputs, DALI subwoofers can be easily connected to almost all amplifiers and receivers.
Elegant and clear design
The cabinet is designed to be as compact and living room-friendly as possible despite the large woofer, but at the same time has enough volume to produce a powerful and deep bass.
Description
Whether you're looking for room-filling bass when listening to music or the bass of a film soundtrack that's sometimes more tangible than audible, the DALI SUB K-14 F delivers the perfect bass foundation! Despite its huge 355 mm diameter cone, the impressive bass cube integrates seamlessly into the ambience of modern living spaces, as it's available in either a white or black cabinet with a matching high-gloss baffle.
The long-throw woofer with an aluminum cone and a digital Class D amplifier with 500 watts of output power give the DALI SUB K-14 F the power required for impressive bass reproduction. Connection is via either the LFE output of the home theater receiver or the stereo outputs of a hi-fi amplifier.
Digital amplifier
An amplifier with 450 watts RMS output ensures adequate power. Due to its digital design, almost all of the power is directed to the woofer, ensuring sufficient power recovery even at higher volumes and with powerful bass impulses. Since the power supply is also provided by a particularly efficient switch-mode power supply (SWPS), the SUB K-14 F requires no heat sink.
To prevent the subwoofer from overheating even during extended periods of loud operation, the SUB K-14 F features overload protection. This ensures that the power amplifier automatically shuts down in the event of overheating and restarts after the amplifier has cooled down to normal operating temperature.
The subwoofer also features a limiter in the analog input stage that automatically engages at higher volume levels. This ensures that the audio input signal supplied by the preamplifier cannot overload the Class D power amplifier, which would result in clearly audible distortion (clipping). The limiter continuously compares the incoming audio signal with a reference value. If it detects an input signal that is too high, its level is automatically reduced – without any audible difference.
Equipped with volume and crossover frequency controls (40–120 Hz), as well as a phase reversal switch, the DALI SUB K-14 F can be perfectly adapted to most front speakers and room acoustics. Both line and LFE RCA connectors are available for connection to a preamplifier or receiver.
woofer
The 355 mm diaphragm of the SUB K-14 F is made of jet-black aluminum. Because this material is both very rigid and lightweight, it offers excellent transient response – something you wouldn't normally expect from a subwoofer in this price range. True to the DALI philosophy of exceptionally lifelike reproduction, the transient response is also very good, enabling optimal interaction with the front speakers.
Instead of integrating a separate dust cap into the center of the diaphragm, the diaphragm is made from a single piece, allowing its vibrational motion to approximate the ideal of a piston. The result: Distortion is reduced to an absolute minimum, especially in the lowest frequency ranges that the subwoofer is intended to reproduce.
The woofer's drive uses a large ferrite magnet, which creates a powerful magnetic field within the voice coil area. This extends the frequency response of the SUB K-14 F down to 29 Hz, ensuring extremely detailed reproduction combined with high sound pressure even in the lowest frequencies.
The 30 mm diameter, four-layer voice coil has been optimized for particularly large excursions. It is ventilated to reliably cool the coil itself and the entire drive unit, ensuring stable bass reproduction under all conditions.
The pole piece is also vented to ensure proper cooling. However, the ventilation serves a different purpose here: It reduces internal compression in the drive system, ensuring free movement of the diaphragm without disruptive overpressure or underpressure.
To minimize signal loss, a highly flexible surround is used, allowing for large and linear deflections. The generously dimensioned suspension is designed to ensure that both weak and strong audio currents are converted into acoustic signals without distortion.
Housing
The SUB K-14 F is undoubtedly a large subwoofer, but thanks to its well-thought-out design, it's not intrusive. The 355 mm diaphragm extends almost to the edge of the elegant, high-gloss baffle, emphasizing the effect of a "large chassis in a compact enclosure." The 430 x 395 x 425 mm cabinet is constructed of solid MDF panels and gives the woofer an impressive working volume of 44 liters.
The cabinet is available in two finishes: black ash with black high-gloss baffle or white satin finish with white high-gloss baffle.
The entire enclosure is decoupled from the floor by an elegant aluminum base. It almost appears as if the subwoofer is floating above the floor – the 50 mm clearance between the enclosure and the floor isn't just for aesthetics; it also eliminates potential turbulence caused by the downward-firing bass reflex port.
