Audio-Technica AT-OC9XML – Precision MC cartridge for high-resolution tracking
The AT-OC9XML is a moving-coil cartridge designed for the most faithful possible reproduction of the finest record information. At its core is a tracking geometry that addresses both high-frequency resolution and stable tracking in the inner grooves, without overemphasizing the mechanical interaction with the record.
Microlinear diamond cut for enhanced information readout
The microlinear stylus geometry enables a large, uniform contact zone in the groove. This ensures clean capture of high-frequency signal components up to the extended range of 47,000 Hz. At the same time, the shape reduces distortions typically occurring in the inner grooves, where linear tracking becomes physically more demanding.
An additional practical effect of this geometry is the reduced point load on the record groove, which can have a positive impact on the long-term wear of both vinyl and needle.
Naked microlinear needle and boron needle carrier for controlled impulse behavior
The combination of a naked diamond tip and a boron cantilever aims for the most direct mechanical coupling possible, while simultaneously achieving high stiffness and low moving mass. This design supports precise impulse response, especially with complex transient signals.
The result is clean tracking even in dynamically demanding passages, without the system tending towards instability in the upper harmonic range.
Magnetic circuit with neodymium and Permendur for high energy efficiency
The generator drive uses a neodymium magnet system in conjunction with a Permendur yoke. This combination of materials ensures a high magnetic flux density within the compact design of the pickup.
The stable magnetic energy contributes to efficient voltage induction and supports a consistent channel balance as well as precise imaging of the stereo image.
Aluminum housing for controlling mechanical resonances
The AT-OC9XML's housing is made of aluminum and primarily serves to mechanically stabilize the system. The aim is to dampen unwanted resonances that could affect signal fidelity.
The reduced case vibration supports a clearer reproduction of micro-details and improves the quietness within the background noise of the overall system.
Coil winding made of high-purity PCOCC copper
The coils are made of high-purity copper (PCOCC) produced using the Ohno Continuous Casting process. This material is characterized by a particularly homogeneous crystal structure, which is intended to minimize electrical conduction losses.
In practice, this contributes to clean signal transmission, especially in quiet passages and finely graduated dynamic ranges.
