The Thorens TD 402 DD is a ready-to-play direct-drive turntable for discerning listeners seeking a technically sound solution with genuine ease of use. Its newly developed, smooth-running DC direct drive ensures constant speed and immediate response – free from belt wear and with precise electronic speed switching between 33 1/3 and 45 rpm.

The design prioritizes stability and everyday usability: a damped aluminum platter, a low-resonance chassis with a brushed aluminum top plate, and solid overall tuning, all at a weight of 5.8 kg. The result is smooth, controlled operation with clean impulse response.

Sophisticated technology for superior playback

A key element is the new TP 72 tonearm with its special carbon fiber tube. Carbon fiber combines high rigidity with low mass – ideal prerequisites for precise tracking and clean monitoring, even in complex passages.

The tried-and-tested Audio-Technica AT-VM95E cartridge comes pre-mounted in a detachable headshell. This solution allows not only for a straightforward system change, but also for precise adjustments without much effort.

The integrated phono preamplifier module can be switched on as needed. This allows the TD 402 DD to be connected directly to high-level inputs – or alternatively to an external phono stage if the system is equipped accordingly. Flexibility is maintained.

Comfort features with audiophile aspirations

The TD 402 DD operates manually, but offers a switchable automatic shut-off with auto-stop at the end of the record. Additionally, the auto-start function ensures convenient everyday use.

Anti-skating is of course integrated, and power is supplied via an external 24V DC plug-in power supply to minimize interference in the device.
