The DV XX-1 was the first cartridge system to feature a 'Magnetic Flux Damper' (patent) and a 'reduced magnetization' process (patent) to reject the harmful magnetic fluctuations that negatively affect the performance of a moving coil pickup.

The DV XX-2 MKII retains the advantage of the flux damper, but features the Alnico 5 magnet and a similar stable construction to the Te Kaitora Rua. Alnico magnets have a high magnetic flux density combined with a low coercivity, resulting in lower magnetic resistance compared to other magnet types such as rare earth and ferrite magnets. This ensures the exceptional stability of the XX-2 MKII's output voltage. Another advantage is the low magnetic and electrical resistance, which contributes to an audible improvement in sound quality.

It also features deep, powerful bass, and the highs are clear and lively, without the harshness found in many moving coil designs.

It also features a 6mm solid boron arm equipped with a Pathfinder line-contact stylus. PCOCC (Pure Copper Ohno Continuous Casting Process) copper wire is used for the coil. The 0.28mV output voltage is higher than that of the XX-2, and the 6 ohm impedance value is suitable for most moving coil phono stages.

For structural stability, the XX-2 MKII's pickup body is made of 7075 aluminum, the hardest material available. However, with a total weight of just 8.9 grams, it is suitable for a variety of popular tonearms.
