Nagaoka shellac pickup MP-11N/SP
The shellac record is the predecessor of classic vinyl and was produced until the 1950s. A special pickup is required to play the records. Nagaoka has always offered such special pickups with shellac needles.
We are expanding our Nagaoka pickup range with the new MP-11N SP shellac pickup and replacement needles.
Shellac pickup MP-11N SP
The grooves of shellac records are significantly wider and the rotation speed is faster (approx. 78 revolutions per minute). The MP-11N SP features a large diameter diamond. This means that the tip of the scanner does not run into the bottom of the groove on the record, which prevents unwanted noise.
The thickness of the shellac needle is indicated by the fillet radius. The fillet radius is specified in mils (for mils, 1 mil is approximately 0.0254 millimeters). The fillet radius of the MP-11N SP is 3 mils (0.0762 millimeters)
Pickups and replacement needles
There are various replacement needles with different rounding radii for the special pickup. The replacement needles are available upon request with the following rounding radii: 1.5 mil - 4.5 mil.
