With DREAM LIKE A DOGWOOD WILD BOY, the first-class British saxophonist Binker Golding delivers his third solo album in 2022. He will be joined by his longtime band, consisting of session guitarist Billy Adamson and London pianist Sarah Tandy. The rhythmic accompaniment was provided by bassist Daniel Casimir and Sam Jones on drums.
Musical fireworks
On DREAM LIKE A DOGWOOD WILD BOY, musical (jazz & blues) fireworks are set off, transforming every elevator shaft into a launch platform. The repertoire ranges from blues, hard bop and soulful jazz, which reflect influences from Sonny Rollins, for example.
The bottleneck makes its big appearance right at the beginning with WIDE OPEN LOWS - Billy Adamson takes his time until Binker skilfully takes over. Six more tracks follow, which can serve as clear proof that the interaction of a band is more important than the solo qualities of the individual. As always, timing matters.
