The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds

HACKNEY DIAMONDS are the shards of glass that are often left behind in the dangerous London district of Hackney after a robbery. After more than sixty years of solidarity, the diamond is a recognized symbol that you can deservedly pin on your lapel or on your album. The fact that the name of the Stones' new album is simple shards of glass after an immoral act is perfect for a band that, after exactly 61 years in show business, still likes to get its hands dirty.

The writer of these lines was never a big Rolling Stones fan. They were always there, like the Eiffel Tower or the Hermann Monument. But then the first single “Angry” came through the car radio and the accelerator rocked more than it should. The good mood couldn't be gotten rid of. Not even on a dark, rainy morning when you loudly question other people's ability to drive while you yourself almost lose your bearings in the fog. Don't get angry with me comes off the lips quite easily (and loudly) in response to a wild concert of horn honking. Singing a Rolling Stones song loudly in other people's faces can then be crossed off your bucket list (quickly write it down first).

The epic sound of the guitars and the densely woven sound network on HACKNEY DIAMONDS immediately captivate you. The album is a lot of blues, a little pop in a rock coat and a lot of old soul from musicians who have taken everything with them that you can take with you in a musician's life. Old and new companions such as Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga and Paul McCartney are there!

And the Stones remain true to themselves: Mess It Up is reminiscent of the songs from the seventies albums. Dreamy Skies brings you back to earth and at the end HACKNEY DIAMONDS closes with the song known as Catfish Blues by one of the most important blues musicians in the world: Muddy Waters. An absolutely great album.
