'Give me a Leonard Cohen Afterworld' was sung by Kurt Cobain in the Nirvana play PENNY ROYAL TEA. Kurt has always maintained that the words in his songs aren't that important - maybe just in response to those annoying what-does-this-and-that-meaning questions.

FABULOUS SOUNDING TRIBUTE

Cohen, who died on November 7th, 2016, certainly knows best what the Leonard Cohen Afterworld looks like. Of course, in this world of ours, fans and artists still remember his music. After all, his work spans almost four decades. HERE IT IS: A TRIBUTE TO LEONARD COHEN shows once again the influence his music and poetry has on artists of all ages. Gregory Porter, Mavis Staples, David Gray and Norah Jones and a few more have the honor of following in Cohen's footsteps on the fabulous sounding Blue Note album.

Iggy Pop makes YOU WANT IT DARKER even blacker than the original while a rolling bass lurks in the background. For his homage with HERE IT IS, Peter Gabriel sticks very closely to the original Cohen vocals (if not quite as deep), but gives the piece a new color. Saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins leaves out the entire text of AVALANCHE and showers us like an avalanche with everything his alto saxophone has to offer.

HERE IT IS: A TRIBUTE TO LEONARD COHEN consists mainly of highlights. A more than successful tribute album to someone for whom words have always been important.
