Jazz · 80s · Trio · Experimental · Synth Jazz

When we hear a sentence like “The release of PLAY OR DIE took place almost in secret”, we take notice and listen with interest: How terrible is this music? The extensive review of PLAY OR DIE on a music blog called Rocktimes, however, promised that this Tony Williams album was something special. Recorded in 1980, together with Tom Grand (keyboards, synthesizer) and Patrick O'Hearn (bass), Williams delivers jazz for insiders on PLAY OR DIE with a strong 80s touch, without having to think too much about shoulder pads and gelled hair. After the artist's death, his widow, Colleen Williams, agreed to re-release PLAY OR DIE. First on CD, and then on vinyl, we experience jazz from a great musician who learned during his time with Miles Davis, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report and many others that there is no need to be afraid of change.
