AudioQuest's digital high-speed cables, such as FireWire, Ethernet and USB, have sparked enthusiasm from testers, manufacturers, dealers and end customers around the world. Nonetheless, the need for superior versions of the well-known digital cables such as balanced AES / EBU and digital coax is as urgent as ever. AudioQuest is delighted to present a completely new range of 7 digital coaxial cables that incorporate the latest AQ technologies and materials.
The new series of digital coaxial cables starts with the Forest, which is based on solid conductors with 1.25% silver. While silver-coated copper is sonically a disaster for full-range analog signals, its performance in the digital domain is outstanding. Because digital signals only move on the surface of the conductor, silver coating comes very close to the performance of a 100 percent silver conductor - and at a fraction of the cost.
The cinnamon, carbon and coffee increase the proportion of silver in the conductor metal to 1.25, 5 and 10 percent, respectively, which reduces distortion and improves the sound. Solid 100% Perfect Surface Silver (PSS), AQ's best conductor material, is used in Diamond, Wild and WEL Signature.
All cables in the range are equipped with AudioQuest's extremely effective Noise Dissipation System (NDS). Common cable shielding absorbs noise and RF energy and then directs them to component ground, modulating and distorting the critical reference ground plane. The use
Alternating layers of metal and carbon-containing plastics in the NDS 'shields the screen' and absorbs and reflects most of this energy before it reaches the layer connected to the ground.
The higher the number of NDS layers, the greater the protection against such eddy currents on the ground plane and the better the sound. Cinnamon and Forest were given the metal layer NDS; the carbon takes the step to the four-layer NDS based on carbon. If you arrive at the game and the WEL, you will find seven NDS layers plus additional absorption of electromagnetic interference.
In addition, these cables are equipped with newly developed connectors. But their great looks aren't the only thing that's different about these connectors. From carbon upwards, hanging silver is used, a very thick and unusually pure direct coating that is created by dipping individual plugs in pure silver. The result is far superior to conventional electroplating, in which a set of plugs is moved in a drum. This not only results in a beautiful finish (which is actually not so desirable, because this shiny surface is usually created by applying a nickel barrier layer under the silver or gold), but also enables much more precise control of the composition of the dipping liquid and the connection to the layers underneath ... you can hear that - and after a while you can see it too, because hanging silver is relatively immune to tarnishing (but occasional cleaning with a silver polishing cloth can still do no harm).
Highly pure purple copper is used for the basic connector of the carbon; the even higher quality pure red copper is used in the coffee and the following models. Both Purple and Red Copper produce a significantly superior sound compared to compromised brass or other material.
