The Hegel H120 is a relatively affordable integrated amplifier that represents a remarkable development in the product line. It builds on the achievements of its predecessors and offers a significant improvement in both features and performance. Price-wise, the H120 is slightly more expensive than entry-level models, but the significantly larger power supply ensures a more dynamic sound and allows for combination with large speakers that require more demanding drive loads. The digital section of the H120 is directly derived from its larger siblings, forming the heart of this amplifier.
High-quality digital-to-analog conversion
The digital-to-analog conversion in the H120 is of the highest quality and based on technologies developed from scratch by Hegel. Hegel takes full control of the digital data stream and uses technologies derived from its absolute benchmark products to ensure digital music reproduction in its purest form. The result is a completely natural sound, free of artifacts that would force the listener to reduce the volume.
Modern connectivity and streaming
The H120 features numerous modern connectivity options, including Apple AirPlay, Spotify Connect, IP Control, Control4, and UPnP streaming. Additional features are currently in development and will be offered free of charge via a simple software update. All inputs can be configured for volume bypass, allowing the H120 to be easily integrated into a home theater setup or with streaming devices such as Bluesound or Sonos.
Superior amplifier technology
The H120 uses the Hegel SoundEngine 2 amplifier platform, which enables a damping factor of over 2000 and extremely low distortion levels. Details on SoundEngine technology can be found at hegel.com. This technology works similarly to noise-cancelling headphones: It compares the amplifier's output with the input, detects any sound distortion, and plays it back in reverse phase, eliminating all distortion in real time. The result is pristine, natural sound. SoundEngine technology is the result of over 30 years of development and optimization.
