In the first Hugo TT, a combination of rechargeable battery and two supercapacitors already ensured a hitherto unrivaled sound quality. In the Hugo TT 2, Chord does without the battery and instead installs no fewer than six supercapacitors in the power supply, which can therefore provide large currents extremely quickly. The result is an incredibly powerful output stage that can drive even the most difficult headphones easily and in a controlled manner at all times. At its peak, the Chord Hugo TT 2 delivers up to 5 amperes and 9.3 V RMS. Assuming the appropriate cables are used, even high-efficiency compact loudspeakers can be operated with them.
Redesigned case_ In addition to the improvements on the inside, the case of the Hugo TT 2 has also been completely redesigned. A total of six digital inputs are now available: HD-USB (Type B), 2x TOSLink, 2x Coax (BNC) and Bluetooth (aptX with improved range). The Hugo TT 2 also has three headphone outputs (2x 6.35 mm jack, 1x 3.5 mm jack) that can be operated in parallel, as well as a pair of balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (Cinch) line outputs. There are also 2 DX outputs (BNC) for use with future Chord products. Other improvements to the body include re-arranged control buttons, a larger and easier-to-use volume ball, and an improved LED display. A remote control for all functions is of course still included in the scope of delivery.
Tonal flexibility_ Like the Hugo 2, the Hugo TT 2 now also has various filter settings and the digital crossfeed circuit, with which the sound characteristics can be subtly adapted to the characteristics of different music files (DSD, PCM) on the one hand and certain headphone models on the other .
Digitally connected_ As with all of Chord's newer converters, the Hugo TT 2's galvanically isolated USB input is capable of decoding the highest music data available today (up to 768 kHz PCM and DSD512). The TOSLink optical inputs accept data up to 192kHz/24-bit from suitable sources and with appropriate cables. The two coaxial BNC inputs can be used individually or together for signals up to 768 kHz. So the ingenious M-Scaler of the Chord BLU 2 can also be operated with the Hugo TT 2.
Versatile use_ The Hugo TT 2 has three different operating modes: In DAC mode, the volume control on the rear outputs is deactivated, so that the Hugo TT 2 can be operated purely as a D/A converter on a preamplifier or integrated amplifier. In AMP mode, volume control and output stage are active, allowing use as a preamp on a power amp. Finally, the headphone mode is activated at any time by plugging in a headphone and has a low gain as well as a high gain setting.
