The Mission 778CDT is a high-precision CD transport designed for digital signal purity and maximum musicality. As the perfect complement to the components of the 778 series – the 778X integrated amplifier and the 778S streamer – it combines compact dimensions, iconic half-width design, and modern technology into a modular hi-fi system for discerning music lovers.

Design and construction

The elegant, retro-inspired chassis, which also characterized the 778X, houses a meticulously engineered CD drive. Precise servo mechanisms ensure stable rotation, accurate tracking, and effective error correction. A temperature-compensated clock generator (TCXO) minimizes jitter and guarantees a particularly clean and stable SPDIF signal for external DACs.

Mission follows a clear philosophy: components such as transport, laser, decoder, and clock control have their own low-noise power supplies. Unnecessary complexity is avoided, ensuring that the digital output signal remains free of interference and the music is reproduced faithfully.

Digital flexibility

The 778CDT offers coaxial and optical SPDIF digital outputs for direct connection to the 778X's internal DAC or other high-quality converters. It also supports playback of high-resolution music files from USB storage devices. Formats such as FLAC, WAV, MP3, WMA, and APE are processed with the same precision as audio CDs, thanks to identical clock architecture and signal routing.

Integration into a modular hi-fi system

As part of the Mission 778 series, the 778CDT can be stacked with the 778X and 778S. The result is a complete, compact hi-fi system that combines analog and digital sources at the highest level.
