Thorens TD 124 DD direct drive high-end turntable with Thorens SPU TD 124
Tradition meets innovation
The TD 124 was first introduced in 1957 and served for decades in countless radio studios around the world. Ambitious music lovers also quickly discovered the enormously precise turntable for home use; a dedicated fan base remains loyal to this legendary turntable to this day.
Thorens continues this tradition with the completely redesigned TD 124 DD, incorporating innovative technologies. The purist design and basic construction are based on the original. The height-adjustable aluminum chassis rests on vibration-damping rubber elements. Instead of the original idler-wheel and belt drive, the new TD 124 DD uses a high-precision direct drive. This provides powerful torque, enables precise speed control, and isolates the platter from unwanted drive vibrations.
Thorens TD 124 DD – consistently designed for the best sound
The new TP 124 tonearm can be precisely adjusted to the cartridge in all relevant parameters and features an innovative anti-skating solution with a ruby bearing. Furthermore, the TD 124 DD has a patented electric tonearm lift that ensures gentle insertion and removal of the stylus.
The removable headshell with SME connector offers great flexibility in cartridge selection. The high-quality Ortofon SPU TD 124 cartridge is already mounted on the Thorens TD 124 DD offered here.
Thorens SPU TD 124
The Thorens SPU TD 124 was jointly developed by Thorens and Ortofon and is a modern interpretation of the legendary SPU cartridge. The classic SPU design has been further refined and optimized for seamless compatibility with the Thorens TD 124 DD.
A revised generator system enables an output voltage of 0.5 mV, thus reducing the requirements for high-gain transformers and active phono preamplifiers.
A highly polished, nude elliptical diamond stylus is used for tracking. The reduced moving mass at the stylus tip allows for a lower recommended tracking force and improved tracking ability.
The result is a precise, dynamic, and controlled reproduction with high musicality. The SPU TD 124 combines the characteristic sound of a classic SPU system with technical optimizations for modern analog chains and is optimally matched to the TD 124 DD.
