EOS 2: A whole new compact floorstanding speaker.
Gryphon's new EOS series is the result of the work of Benno Meldgaard, Gryphon's chief speaker designer. Formerly head of design at Gamut, Benno Meldgaard is one of the big young talents in the high-end audio industry, and his work for the EOS series offers innovative solutions to create big stages in small spaces. First up is the unique 'Stealth' enclosure from EOS, whose special baffle allows the drivers to spread evenly. The result is a deep stage image. The exterior of EOS' Stealth case has been designed to act as an efficient standing wave diffuser - a huge benefit in small spaces.
Gryphon's patented 'Line Porting' technology, a new way of directing the rear wave of the mid/bass driver towards the bass reflex ports, ensures a
perfect way for the low frequencies to exit the cabinet while providing efficient damping of the frequency range above the 60-80
Hz. The result is amazingly fast and clean bass response, free from mid-range interference. Benno's mission to maximize room compatibility and placement flexibility led to two other design refinements: the EOS can be connected to the speaker cable either from the front or the rear via detachable connectors, while a three-stage phase switch ensures perfectly optimized reproduction at the listening position.
Together, these two features allow for unmatched versatility in speaker placement. Of course, even the smallest Gryphon loudspeaker offers the usual uncompromising processing quality. Gryphon's signature woofer uses a thin-walled carbon fiber cone, manufactured to proprietary specifications by the world's leading manufacturer of Formula 1 components. The EOS tweeter, also proprietary, features a large (34mm) beryllium dome and a resonance-free enclosure for improved dynamics. The handcrafted PCS crossover (Progressive Curved Slope) is assembled from the best materials. The Progressive Curved Slope process maximizes power handling and ensures a seamless transition between drivers. With an efficiency of 91 dB and a minimum impedance of 4 ohms, the EOS 2 is an uncomplicated partner for practically all high-quality power amplifiers.
