Audio-Technica AT-OC9XEN – Moving-coil cartridge with nude elliptical stylus and square shank
The AT-OC9XEN is a moving coil (MC) cartridge within Audio-Technica's AT-OC9X series, combining a nude elliptical diamond stylus with a square-shank design. This construction aims for precise alignment of the stylus in the groove and reduced moving mass in the cartridge. The result is controlled, detailed signal reproduction with stable channel separation.
Moving-coil principle with stable scanning geometry
The AT-OC9X series is based on a moving-coil generator with a wide frequency response and a cleanly defined channel separation of 25 dB at 1 kHz. This separation supports clear spatial imaging and precise localization of individual sound sources within the stereo image.
The AT-OC9XEN utilizes this architecture in conjunction with a mechanically optimized stylus geometry, which particularly extracts fine dynamic information cleanly from the record.
Nude elliptical diamond on a square shank
The AT-OC9XEN is characterized by its nude elliptical diamond without an additional support connection to the stone. The direct attachment to the square stem significantly reduces the moving mass in the cantilever.
This design improves the response speed of the scanning system, especially at high frequencies and in complex inner groove passages. At the same time, the precise geometric alignment ensures a consistent contact surface with the groove.
Generator setup with neodymium magnet and iron yoke
The AT-OC9XEN generator uses a neodymium magnet in combination with a yoke made of pure iron. This material combination produces a high magnetic flux density in a compact design.
The aim of this design is to ensure a stable energy supply in the generator without compromising the mechanical flexibility of the system. This supports clean signal extraction even with dynamically demanding materials.
PCOCC coil wire for defined signal routing
Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting (PCOCC) is used for the voice coils. This high-purity copper is characterized by a uniform crystal structure, which minimizes contact resistance within the conductor material.
In practice, this contributes to stable signal transmission and consistent reproduction of fine details, especially in the high-frequency and microdynamic range.
Aluminum housing for resonance control
The housing is made of aluminum and is designed for mechanical stability while simultaneously controlling its own resonance. The aim is to reduce unwanted vibrations in the cartridge housing that could color the signal.
This constructive measure supports a smoother playback with clear contour sharpness, especially in complex acoustic structures.
Simple and precise assembly
The pickup features integrated threaded holes that allow for direct mounting with two M2.6 screws. No additional nuts are required.
This solution improves the mechanical coupling between the pickup and the headshell while simultaneously reducing the assembly effort.
