Pro-Ject Evo AS Premium Tonearm

The tonearm is one of the most crucial components of a record player. It guides the cartridge precisely through the record groove and thus significantly influences the sound quality. Even the smallest differences in its design can determine how detailed, spacious, and natural the music is reproduced.

With the EVO-AS Premium series, Pro-Ject Audio Systems has consistently further developed its successful Evolution tonearm series. Building on more than 15 years of experience, this new design combines precision mechanical solutions, high-quality materials, and numerous detailed improvements – with the aim of enabling the most faithful possible reproduction of the record.

High-precision bearing for maximum scanning accuracy

The heart of the EVO-AS Premium tonearm is a particularly precise bearing design. It utilizes an inverted gimbal bearing of Swiss ABEC7 quality, equipped with four stainless steel tips.

This design offers exceptionally low friction and high mechanical stability. As a result, the cartridge can precisely track even the finest movements in the groove. The result is an open, detailed soundstage that preserves even the smallest micro-details of the recording.

The bearing sits in a solid stainless steel block, which provides additional stability. The outer ring is intentionally designed with an open profile to prevent unwanted resonances and so-called bell effects. At the same time, the entire bearing is maintenance-free and particularly easy to adjust.

S-shaped aluminum tonearm tube

For the tonearm tube, Pro-Ject uses a specially developed S-shaped aluminum profile with particularly high internal damping. This design is not only a classic feature of high-quality tonearms, but also offers technical advantages.

The optimized geometry reduces tracking angle distortion and improves tracking accuracy. This allows the record groove to be tracked more precisely, resulting in a clean and stable sound reproduction.

The tonearm features an SME headshell mount, allowing for quick and easy cartridge changes. Different headshell materials also enable further tonal fine-tuning.

The tonearm tube is attached with only one screw for azimuth adjustment, making precise adjustment particularly easy.

High-purity internal wiring

The internal wiring consists of specially adapted crystal silver to ensure the most lossless signal transmission possible. Especially with phono signals, which have very low voltage, high-quality wiring is crucial for preserving the finest musical details.

The connection cables to the cartridge are also made of matching crystal silver and feature gold-plated connector clips. These ensure a permanently stable and corrosion-free connection.

Precise adjustment of tracking force and VTA

The EVO-AS Premium tonearm comes with two different counterweights. This allows for optimal balancing of a wide range of cartridges and particularly precise adjustment of the tracking force.

For maximum stability, the counterweight should be positioned as close as possible to the bearing block after adjustment. This reduces the tonearm's inertia and improves control over the tracking motion.

The counterweight itself is equipped with TPE damping. This material reduces unwanted resonances and contributes to a smoother and more precise sound reproduction.

The tonearm height is also continuously adjustable. By loosening two grub screws, the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) can be precisely adjusted. In combination with the precise azimuth adjustment, this allows for optimal matching to the cartridge being used – a crucial factor in realizing the full sonic potential of a vinyl system.

High-quality workmanship

The EVO-AS Premium tonearm is CNC-machined with the highest precision. In the HG version, the glossy aluminum surfaces are additionally hand-polished, giving the tonearm a particularly high-quality appearance.

The integrated tonearm lift is silicone-damped and can also be adjusted to the tonearm height. A high-quality, gold-plated 5-pin DIN output socket is provided for connection.

The tonearm is manufactured entirely in Europe and is available in several versions.
