Apollo record player

Gryphon says: Apollo is the record player of the gods.

Gryphon Audio Designs is not one to hold back and confidently calls the new Apollo turntable the turntable of the gods. The Apollo is a collaboration between Soren Slebo from the Gryphon Designs team, turntable legend Helmut Brinkmann, cartridge master Ortofon and the Aarhus Technical Institute. Gryphon Audio Designs brought together brilliant designers with unparalleled manufacturing capabilities during the design and development phase.

Apollo: A Helmut Brinkmann design

To develop one of the best analog playback systems, you need a world-renowned turntable designer: Helmut Brinkmann. The Apollo uses two hand-built Sinus™ belt drive motors developed by Brinkmann, arranged at 180 degrees to each other and spanning the massive turntable. A digital speed controller was developed for the first time for Apollo. The digital control not only synchronizes the two motors, but is also more accurate than the analog counterparts and never needs to be calibrated.

RöNt power supply technology and chassis

Based on Brinkmann's third generation RöNt power supply technology, Apollo's bespoke power supply uses the BZ 34 'Tube Rectifier Simulator' developed for RöNt. Semiconductors replace the RöNt's tubes. This gives the Apollo units a higher output current. This makes it possible to drive two motors optimally. The Apollo's chassis is based on a laminated 'sandwich' construction made of anodised aluminium, Kerrock and 'Smart Stack', a damping compound patented by the Danish MENETA Group. The motors are completely decoupled from the structure and each mounted on its own optimised sub-chassis. The Apollo's considerable mass rests on four massive, adjustable spikes.

MC Diamond pickup

To achieve the ultimate system synergy, Gryphon worked with Ortofon, one of the leading cartridge manufacturers, to develop a unique cartridge. Its performance characteristics are tailored specifically to the Apollo. Starting with the exceptional MC Diamond cartridge, Gryphon developed a special DLC-TR coated SLM titanium housing and then tuned the cartridge's compliance to create a perfect partner for the Apollo tonearm. The result: The Gryphon Black Diamond DLC is one of the best cartridges on the market and is the ultimate cartridge for the Apollo system. By the way: The Apollo turntable can optionally be equipped with an additional tonearm.

Gryphon Audio Designs has created an analog playback system that is truly impressive in the history of high-end audio
