Revolutionary: The new Pro-Ject A2

The A2 continues the success of Pro-Ject's fully mechanical automatic turntables. A new feature of the A2's automatic is the ability to select the starting point for 7" (singles) or 12" (LPs) for 45 RPM records. We've also added 78 RPM to the system, so you can dive back into old shellac collections. In typical Pro-Ject fashion, the engine is electronically controlled.

Press start and the tonearm will automatically move into the lead-in groove of the record. During playback, the automatic is then completely decoupled! And since the automatic works completely mechanically - no additional electronics are required - the playback process remains completely unaffected.

MDF main chassis & sub chassis

The new heavy MDF main chassis is manufactured in Austria and meticulously hand lacquered in a luxurious eight coat matte black finish. It provides a very stable base for the sub-chassis and reduces voids to avoid resonance. The A2 uses a sub-chassis construction with the tonearm, platter bearing and motor mounted on a separate floating sub-chassis. This further isolates and protects the most critical elements of the turntable.

Improved automatic

We've invested in a new die-cast aluminum cover for the entire sub-chassis and mechanical automatic. We wanted to avoid plastic parts of the original German automatic as much as possible. This is the first time in the automatic's 50 years that the original German design has seen such an improvement.

Tonearm & Gimbal Bearing

The A2 features an ultra-light-mass 8.3" aluminum tonearm with an improved tonearm tube. The perfect complement to the Ortofon 2M Red. We keep the super-fast response and all the transient details with lots of fine microdynamics, while the new 2M Red delivers body and musical warmth. The tonearm bearing is now made of aluminum and has a cardanic 4-point construction with steel ball bearings from our own production.

Massless tracking force adjustment

The A2 uses a new tracking force adjustment system. The tracking force is adjusted by turning a scale directly on the tonearm bearing. This system is not only very fast, precise and efficient, but also ensures that the center of gravity of the tonearm is directly over the center of the bearing. The spring-based anti-skating can also be adjusted directly on the tonearm base.

Pro-Ject design philosophy

Incorporating Pro-Ject designs and ideas, we spent a lot of time on the A2's clean design language. You'll notice similarities with iconic designs from the German audio industry. We believe that this minimalist approach is very modern again today. The A2 comes with the Connect it E phono cable. It is a semi-balanced, low-capacitance RCA cable with excellent shielding and is unique in this price range.
