The Pro-Ject Scorpions turntable combines precise analog technology with one of the most iconic album covers in rock history. The Scorpions' "Blackout" motif, designed by Gottfried Helnwein, is an integral part of the design – not as decoration, but as a visual statement on a technically unique turntable.

This model is aimed at listeners who consciously choose analog playback and value clean construction, controlled resonance conditions and verifiable measurements.

Design with a clear priority: smooth running and directional stability.

At its heart is a precision-engineered 9-inch aluminum tonearm. The one-piece design with integrated headshell reduces mechanical transitions and minimizes tolerances. With an effective mass of 9.5 g, the arm is versatile and perfectly complements the pre-mounted Pro-Ject Pick it 25A MM cartridge.

A spring-based anti-skating system stabilizes the tracking across the entire record side. The result is clean channel balance and low-distortion playback – even with dynamically cut inner grooves.

Technical specifications of the tonearm:

Effective length: 230 mm

Overhang: 22.0 mm

Effective mass: 9.5 g

Solid glass platter and low-resonance chassis

The 10 mm thick glass platter, weighing 1.7 kg, ensures constant rotation and high inherent stability. Glass as a material offers favorable resonance characteristics while simultaneously allowing an unobstructed view of the "Blackout" artwork. Combined with the included felt mat, this creates a controlled coupling between the record and the platter.

The chassis is deliberately designed without cavities to reduce standing waves and cabinet resonances. Vibration-damping feet effectively decouple the player from the surface it rests on. The goal is not spectacular sound, but a calm, stable foundation upon which dynamics and spatial imaging can unfold with precision.

Drive and speed stability

The resonance-optimized belt drive features electronic speed switching for 33 and 45 rpm. Switching is conveniently done via a switch, without manually repositioning the belt.

Measured values:

Speed deviation:

33 rpm: 0.6%

45 rpm: 0.5%

Synchronous fluctuation:

33 rpm: 0.19%

45 rpm: 0.17%

Signal-to-noise ratio: 67 dB

These values document a clean, controlled rotation with low wow and flutter – a key requirement for stable pitches and credible reproduction of complex musical signals.

The main bearing, made of stainless steel and brass, is designed for durability and minimal friction.

Connection and equipment

Included in the package is a semi-balanced RCA phono cable with metal connectors. Power is supplied via a 15V/800mA DC universal power adapter. Power consumption is 4.5W during operation and 0W in standby mode.

Accessories include:

Transparent acrylic dust cover with adjustable hinges

Felt mat

Single adapter

power supply

RCA cable

The hood provides reliable protection without obscuring the graphic design.

Dimensions and manufacturing

Dimensions (W x H x D, hood closed): 465 × 135 × 347 mm

Weight: 5.5 kg net

The Scorpions turntable is handcrafted in Europe. Manufacturing depth and quality control adhere to the same standards as the manufacturer's established models.

Conclusion

The Pro-Ject Scorpions turntable is not merely a collector's item or a design object. It is a technically sound belt-driven turntable with sophisticated resonance control, a precise tonearm, and a pre-mounted, practically tuned moving magnet cartridge.

For listeners who not only want to own the album "Blackout" but also reproduce it in appropriate quality – and for all those looking for a standalone edition with comprehensible technology.
