MODEL 20 MK2 WITH SERIES V GDP TONEARM
The 20 MK2 model has a new drive unit consisting of a 24V synchronous motor, an external control unit and an external power supply. The Model 20 MK2 is technologically based on the Model 30 reference record player, but is slightly smaller in overall dimensions. Technologically and sonically, however, it is very close to the former reference. The tonearm is an SME Series V, which has been the tonearm reference for many years.
The chassis is designed as a complex sub-chassis: Tonearm, platter and bearing are decoupled from 4 pillars with 40 silicone O rings. Excess energy is absorbed by a centrally installed liquid-filled damping element. This complex construction of mass and sub-chassis is clearly superior in terms of sound compared to pure mass drives.
The platter is an acoustically dead sandwich construction with a special layer glued to the platter, which is precisely machined and provided with a special micro-groove profile to create the best possible contact with the record. In terms of sound, this profiling has proven to be clearly superior to a smooth surface.
As is usual with SME turntables, the record is clamped onto the platter using a record clamp. In this way, optimal contact with the platter is established and production-related unevenness of the record is largely leveled out.
The platter bearing is an ultra-strong and durable phosphor bronze construction, manufactured to the tightest tolerances.
