Vinyl Birdy / Young Heart (Double LP, 45rpm)

Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, hereinafter called Birdy, doesn't have it easy either. If you look back on three albums at the age of 24, you're probably wondering what's next. Often it's just a new album. In between there is a bit of life. So far so good.

Relationship dramas and what follows afterwards

When Birdy was 14, her version of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" was being played all over the radio. We were all ten years younger then and easily impressed. The singer/songwriter is now 25 years old and her current album will soon be one year old. On "Young Heart" she tells of past relationships, the special (and of course tragic) between two people who truly loved each other (Nobody Knows Me Like You Do), and moving on (Young Heart). There aren't any Bono-esque wisdoms on "Young Heart" (people always have certain expectations), but maybe you recognize yourself in the lyrics here and there.

Sonically and musically successful

Musically, Birdy remains reduced with piano, acoustic guitar and of course her great, clear voice, which was once again very well captured. It doesn't need more. The album is very simple and without frills, does without chart hits, but the eponymous piece at the very end stays in your head a little longer.

On the simple cover we see Birdy smiling at us with her eyes while holding a guitar. Maybe it's not that difficult for her after all.
