The technology behind it

The A 6.2 Master Edition is a Class A / AB amplifier, which is built with MOST FET transistors in its output stages. In principle, these transistors are much faster than bi-polar transistors, but are much more difficult to handle. The concepts of the characteristic curves of ideally matched transistors have helped AVM achieve new top performance here. Our premium manufacturer from Baden had implemented this principle for the first time in the power amplifier flagships of the OVATION Line. The speed of this circuit, which is based on MOS-FETs, gives the A 6.2 ME an unprecedented wealth of tonal detail. AVM's special single-ended circuit topology of the output stage also realizes the incredibly powerful, full and warm sound of the A 6.2 Master Edition.

The effort for the well thought-out circuits is immense: independent power supply units supply all stages of the A 6.2 Master Edition individually and effectively prevent unwanted mutual interference between the amplifier stages. The input stages are completely DC-coupled and fully symmetrical - incoming signals from the asymmetrical inputs are buffered and balanced directly after the input sockets. In addition, the input stages are consistently constructed as a double mono architecture. Two identical circuits on two independent circuit boards, each with its own on-board power supply, enable a crosstalk distance between the left and right channels that is outside the measuring ranges of the measuring instruments. The 256-level volume control as well as the tone control are also fully symmetrical (this effort brings about 3dB better signal-to-noise ratio) and with less than 0.0 5dB channel deviation at all volume levels.

The MOS-FET power stages of the A 6.2 Master Edition are designed as a single-ended architecture and borrowed from the power stages of the OVATION flagship series. All circuit boards are constructed with particularly thick 75 µm pure copper tracks, completely gold-plated and coated with thermally tolerant black lacquer. All circuit boards are assembled on site at the AVM factory. The driver stage has its own, separately controlled operating point setting. Our AVM engineers have used their full know-how in the design of this amplifier stage, which is particularly relevant in terms of sound: The LEDs used not only indicate that the A 6.2 ME is functioning properly, but are also significantly less noisy than conventional "Zener diodes". The output stages are powered by a 1000 VA main transformer specially developed for the A 62nd Master Edition. The mains supply is supported by in-house AVM Ultra-Quick capacitors in parallel with a total of 120,000µF (that's 0.12F!).

The new class A headphone amplifier is equipped with a completely self-sufficient amplifier unit and works completely independently in class A operation. This amplifier stage is located behind the 15 millimeter thick front panel. The entire OVATION housing of the A 6.2 Master Edition is somewhat reminiscent of a small safe, but it is again only a means to an end, since the A 6.2 Master Edition can be effectively cooled in this way and is correspondingly torsion-resistant, so that all components are protected from unwanted External influences such as vibrations can be effectively protected. Another detail: The ball-bearing knobs are turned from a single piece together with the axle and therefore do not require any grub screws. Behind it follows a long axis which then leads to the screwed-on rotary controls.

Further connection details: Additional power amplifiers such as the ideally matching OVATION SA 6.3 can be connected via separate preamplifier outputs for optional bi-amping operation - in symmetrical as well as in asymmetrical operation. The A 6.2 Master Edition is fully updateable, so that additional functions can be easily reloaded in the future. An active phase display also makes it easier for you to connect the power supply correctly. In the A 6.2 Master Edition, many useful 'helpers' work in the background and help to ensure maximum ease of use: protective circuits prevent damage, for example in the event of connection errors, soft mute functions suppress background noise, for example when switching at full volume. The A 6.2 ME remembers the volume last played and wakes up from standby in the same way. Many settings can be adjusted to your individual needs: For example, inputs can be renamed or levels can be matched to one another. Home cinema loops (so-called AV Pass Through) can be selected.

Like all audiophile masterpieces from AVM, the A 6.2 Master Edition is also made entirely by hand in the Malsch factory - the vast majority of suppliers, for example for the precise housing parts, are also based in the immediate vicinity. Repeated, intensive quality controls during all production steps and a break-in period of several days for each individual device ensure our promise of maximum reliability in the long term.
