The AVM Ovation SA 8.3 is a stereo power amplifier that prioritizes clear features: high current delivery, stable power supply, and signal routing designed for transparency. Instead of sonic effects, the focus here is on controlled, precise reproduction – even with demanding loudspeakers and dynamically complex material.
At its heart lies a powerful MOSFET output stage with high current capability. Up to 60 amps are available for rapid impulse demands, resulting in particularly well-defined transients and stable control in the low-frequency range. The fully DC-coupled signal path eliminates the need for sound-altering coupling capacitors, ensuring direct, unadulterated signal transmission. This is complemented by a tube input stage that doesn't color the signal but rather structurally organizes it, revealing subtle harmonic relationships.
The power reserves are generously dimensioned: Over 230 watts into 8 ohms and more than 420 watts into 4 ohms are continuously available. Short-term peak loads far exceed these figures. Two 1000 VA toroidal transformers and separate power supplies for the power and control sections provide the basis for a stable and low-loss power supply. The high filter capacitance of over 136,000 µF per channel helps to maintain a constant voltage even during rapid load changes.
With a high damping factor and a wide bandwidth extending beyond 35 kHz, the output signal remains precisely controlled even under load. The measured distortion and intermodulation values are very low, while a high signal-to-noise ratio and pronounced channel separation ensure clean spatial imaging.
The SA 8.3 offers balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, allowing for flexible integration into various audio systems. The solid aluminum housing follows a functional design, prioritizing mechanical stability, thermal management, and electromagnetic shielding. A chrome-plated CELLINI front panel is available as an option. The controls and display are intentionally minimalist and designed for everyday use.
With a weight of 42 kg and delivery in a flight case, it is already apparent from the outside that this amplifier is designed for long-term use.
