McIntosh DA2 DAC Module

The DA2 Digital Audio Module is the latest and most advanced module for processing digital audio signals from McIntosh. It is included as standard in the C53 and C2700 preamplifiers. McIntosh Home Audio products equipped with the DA1 can be upgraded to the newer DA2. The models that can be upgraded to the DA2 are the MA9000, MA8900, MA7200 and MA5300 integrated amplifiers, the MAC7200 receiver and the C49 preamplifier. These models are shipped from the factory with the DA1. Upgrading to the DA2 is either possible at a later date or directly when the device is ordered.

High end TV sound

The digital audio module DA2 builds on the DA1 and offers a number of extended functions. In addition to the connections of the DA1 (2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB and 1 MCT), the DA2 has an HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) connection. This allows TVs with a compatible HDMI (ARC) output to be connected to take the sound of your TV to the next level through your stereo. ARC functionality enables two-way communication between the device equipped with the DA2 and the TV, allowing volume control and lip-syncing to ensure that the audio and video are perfectly synchronized. Popular multichannel audio formats from Dolby® and DTS® are supported and expertly converted to 2-channel audio for correct playback on your DA2 device. With CEC communications enabled in both the DA2 and your television, your TV remote control can control the volume of your connected McIntosh unit.

Streaming via USB

In addition, the USB input of the DA2 supports native playback of up to DSD512 and thus exceeds the DSD256 limit of the DA1. This improved DSD playback support is thanks to the next-generation quadruple symmetrical 8-channel 32-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with which the DA2 is equipped. This audiophile DAC is characterized by an improved dynamic range compared to the DA1. The USB input also supports DXD up to 384 kHz. The coaxial and optical inputs can decode digital music at up to 24 bit / 192 kHz for high resolution audio playback. The DA2 is rounded off by a proprietary MCT input that provides a secure, custom DSD connection for playback of high definition audio on SACDs in conjunction with our MCT500 and MCT80 SACD / CD transports for the best possible sound quality Your SACD collection.

Upgrade

Due to the technical nature of the DA2 upgrade, it is a dealer installed upgrade and must be performed by a qualified technician at an Authorized McIntosh Dealer or Authorized McIntosh Service Agency. Please note that if someone other than an Authorized McIntosh Dealer or Authorized McIntosh Service Agent is upgrading under the terms of your McIntosh Limited Warranty, any resulting damage or failure to your equipment will be excluded from your warranty coverage.
