Bryston TF-3 Moving-Coil Step-Up Transformer – high-quality MC signal amplification without active electronics

The Bryston TF-3 moving-coil step-up transformer is the ideal solution for combining an existing MM phono preamplifier with a high-quality, low-output MC cartridge. The passive transformer boosts the very low output signal of an MC system to a level suitable for an MM phono input – entirely without active amplifier stages.

The focus here is on exceptionally clear and low-distortion signal transmission. Since signal amplification is entirely passive via the transformer, no additional active electronics are used. This enables extremely transparent playback and preserves the subtle musical details of high-quality MC cartridges.

Depending on the version, different gain levels are available. This allows the TF-3 to be specifically tailored to the cartridge being used and the existing phono preamplifier. The versions with 20 dB and 26 dB gain are suitable for different output levels and allow for flexible integration into existing analog hi-fi systems.

The combination with an existing MM phono input is particularly practical. Instead of replacing the entire phono stage, the Bryston TF-3 can be used as a link between the existing MM phono preamp and a new low- to medium-output MC cartridge. This allows for the targeted expansion of a high-quality analog system.

Thanks to its passive design, the step-up transformer operates without an additional active amplifier circuit. This keeps the signal path clean and minimizes the risk of additional distortion. The high-quality construction also ensures reliable and long-term use.

Visually, the TF-3 also presents itself in the characteristic, understated yet elegant Bryston design. Various finishes are available for the front panel, including silver, black, white, gunmetal grey, and champagne. The compact housing integrates seamlessly into high-end hi-fi systems.
