Unison Research Unico DS – High-end hybrid streamer with CD drive and tube output stage
The Unison Research Unico DS combines state-of-the-art digital technology with the natural musicality of a high-quality tube output stage. As a digital hybrid streamer in the Unico series, it unites streaming, CD playback, and a powerful ESS SABRE DAC in one versatile device. The Unico DS thus offers a high-quality, all-in-one solution for discerning digital music playback.
At its core is the ESS SABRE ES9038Q2M digital-to-analog converter (DAC), which processes numerous digital sources with low noise and distortion. The digital section is complemented by a dedicated streaming platform with support for high-resolution music. The Unico DS can be flexibly integrated into modern hi-fi systems and networks via Ethernet, DLNA/UPnP, and Bluetooth.
A fully symmetrical Class A tube output stage ensures sonic refinement. The innovative Unison Research FDF (Frequency-Dependent Feedback) technology was specifically designed to preserve the precision of the DAC signal while simultaneously delivering the characteristic musicality of tube technology. It utilizes two ECC83/12AX7 and two ECC82/12AU7 Gold Lion tubes.
The Unico DS also proves to be a particularly versatile digital source in terms of its features. In addition to the integrated CD drive, it offers high-resolution USB audio playback up to PCM 786 kHz and DSD256, as well as RCA and XLR outputs. This makes the hybrid streamer suitable for both classic CD collections and modern streaming and high-resolution audio sources.
Visually, the Unico DS follows the current design language of the Unico series. The front panel, machined from a solid 15 mm thick block of aluminum, conveys a high-quality and exceptionally robust feel. An OLED display provides clear information about playback, while the integrated CD tray and four control buttons ensure convenient operation. The exclusive Midnight Black and Velvet Gold finishes are available.
The Unison Research Unico DS is aimed at music lovers who want to combine digital versatility with high-quality analog signal processing. The combination of an ESS SABRE DAC, network streaming, a CD drive, and a fully balanced tube output stage makes it a comprehensive high-end source for modern hi-fi systems.
