Discrete signal processing for immersive multi-channel systems
The McIntosh MX124 AC, the direct successor to the MX123, features an uncompromising signal architecture for high-resolution multi-channel audio and video. The A/V processor discretely handles up to 15.4 channels and forms the technical foundation for complex home theater installations.
For lossless signal transmission to external power amplifiers , 13.4 channels are available via balanced XLR outputs . These guarantee a high signal-to-noise ratio, maximum dynamic range, and precise channel separation – even with long signal paths.
Acoustic room correction: Dirac Live & Audyssey
For the measurement-related and sonic adaptation to the room acoustics, the MX124 AC integrates two established systems:
Audyssey: Enables a quick and efficient basic calibration of the system.
Dirac Live Room Correction: Performs highly accurate impulse response and frequency response correction to eliminate room-induced coloration.
Dirac Live Bass Control: Optimizes the interaction and phase relationship of multiple subwoofers. The resulting bass response is linear, phase-correct, and evenly distributed across the entire listening area.
Note: Licenses for Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control are included.
Signal architecture & 32-bit D/A conversion
Newly developed 32-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs) ensure accurate signal processing of digital audio sources. With negligible distortion and a high dynamic range, the MX124 AC delivers impressive performance with both highly dynamic film soundtracks and high-resolution stereo and multi-channel music playback.
Future-proof video interface & streaming integration
The HDMI section supports state-of-the-art image standards with bandwidths for 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz . Video signals from Ultra HD media players or current game consoles are passed through without loss of quality or latency.
The processor offers extensive protocol support for digital audio playback:
Streaming: Integration of Apple AirPlay, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect.
Roon Ready: Seamless integration into high-resolution Roon network architectures.
Bidirectional Bluetooth: Allows both receiving audio signals from wireless players and sending the summed signal to Bluetooth headphones.
Analog integration including phono
In addition to its digital features, the MX124 AC has an integrated, low-noise phono input for turntables. This allows the processor to combine classic analog playback chains with modern digital home theater technology.
