E-07 Phono Preamplifier MM/MC

MM/MC phono preamplifier for uncompromising analog playback

The phono preamplifier is a central element of any high-quality vinyl system. It processes extremely small signals and significantly influences sound quality, dynamics, and spatiality. To mark its 100th anniversary in 2025, Luxman presents the E-07, a purely transistor-based phono preamplifier designed with a focus on sonic precision, flexibility, and technical perfection.

Flexible connection options including symmetrical MC input

The E-07 offers two unbalanced RCA inputs and one balanced XLR input for MC cartridges. The balanced input, in particular, enables low-loss signal transmission with high channel separation and precise spatial imaging.

For MC cartridges, a newly developed step-up transformer with a super-permalloy core is used. Two independent transformers with selectable low- and high-gain characteristics operate per channel, allowing for optimal adaptation to different MC cartridges.

The slim housing with blasted-white front blends seamlessly into existing Luxman systems.

High-quality amplifier technology

In the sensitive input stage, Luxman employs an audio frequency (AF) circuit with parallel-connected FETs, ensuring an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and extremely precise amplification. All components used are hand-selected and chosen after extensive listening tests.

The loopless housing design, OFC internal wiring and elaborate shielding minimize interference and ensure clean, natural signal transmission.

Extensive customization options

The E-07 allows for precise tuning to virtually any pickup:

  • MC load impedance (front): 4.7 / 10 / 40 / 100 / 300 / 1,000 O
  • MM load impedance (rear): 34 / 47 / 56 / 100 kΩ
  • MM capacitance (rear): 0 / 100 / 220 / 320 pF

High-performance, separate power supply

  • Three independent transformers ensure a stable and interference-free power supply:
  • Separate power supplies for left and right channels
  • Dedicated transformer for relay and control circuits
  • Generously dimensioned filter capacitors (10,000 µF × 5)

Optimized grounding and mechanical stability

Massive, gold-plated brass grounding terminals are directly connected to the respective input circuits, effectively reducing ground loops. Additionally, Luxman's Petal Ground Structure (PGS) is used, which ensures all ground references are centrally and evenly distributed.

The low-vibration housing with double copper base plate (3.6 mm), high mass and resonance-optimized feet ensures stable, unadulterated playback.

Practical additional functions

  • Articulator for demagnetizing MC transformers and pickups
  • Low-cut filter against low-frequency interference
  • Mono switch for mono records
  • Phase reversal for optimal integration into the amplifier chain
