Vinyl tip: GRANT GREEN – THE LATIN BIT
Jazz · Latin Jazz · Sunny Side · Percussive · Jazz Guitar
You can do practically anything to this album: dance, ride in an elevator, startle the other passengers with your dancing, or simply sway along comfortably at the breakfast table. The sunny disposition of THE LATIN BIT is contagious, whether you're in a windowless room or on a gray winter day when it's best not to look outside at all. Jazz guitarist Grant Green effortlessly translates the Latin American vibe into his jazz world – though not entirely without assistance: The rhythm section on THE LATIN BIT consists of Willie Bobo on drums, Garvin Masseaux on the chekere (a shaker idiophone that fights its way through the background), and Carlos "Patato" Valdes on the conga.
THE LATIN BIT was originally released in 1963 and reissued as part of Blue Note's Tone Poet series. It was recorded at the famous Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, where a number of high-quality jazz recordings were made. THE LATIN BIT is full of life and has lost none of its brilliance more than 60 years after its release.
